Republic of Novarre

The Republic of Novarre is a parliamentary republic on the Fringe planet of Torrentia.

History

Novarre was founded as a colony of the Hyperion Dominion in 2360. In the early 2400's, the GUSF took an interest in Torrentia, leading to diplomatic agreements for them to establish Nova Base and conduct research on the planet.
In 2591, the colony experienced revolution culminating in the Eleven Day War, which resulted in the overthrow of the dominion and the establishment of the Kobayashist Commune of Novarre. Two years later, in the midst of a GUSF pullout from the region, a Hyperion fleet bombarded the republic, forcing its capitulation and the reestablishment of a royalist government.
By 2601, with the Hyperion Dominion collapsing and support for the royalist government diminished, the MTL intervened by signing a number of treaties with representatives from the planet, sponsoring the creation of the Republic of Novarre. Novarre held its first elections shortly thereafter.

Military

Due to scarcity of manpower and the difficulty of extracting natural resources needed for developing new military infrastructure, Novarre started contracting its defense to the Stellar Vanguard Group in 2601 at the recommendation of the MTL, in exchange for the leasing of Nova Base and use of much of Torrentia for military exercises.
