Rites of Senescence
The Rites of Senescence relate to a set of privileges and responsibilities bestowed upon children their final year in Saccharine
History
The Rites of Senescence have been practiced for decades, with Gretel ensuring the tradition is passed down and observed by the generations.
Participants
Upon their final year of adolescence (14 years old for humans), the children of Saccharine gain the title of "Elder" and are put in charge of the village's leadership positions. Each Elder votes amongst themselves for an "Eldest" to be chosen to lead the village.
Elders—Eder children, and leaders of the village.
Eldest—Overseer of the village.
Eldest—Overseer of the village.
Observance
The Rites of Senescence are observed universally within Saccharine, with many of the children holding the Elders in respect with the knowledge that they two will one day take their place.
