Coastal Elves - Extinct

In the early days of the First Millennium, as reckoned by the Corvalan Elves, a sub-species of the sea elves emerged from the sea. They became a far more amphibious strain of elf. Though very capable of survival on land without suffering the skin-drying conditions experienced by their aquatic cousins, they sacrificed their gills. The coastal elves are able to hold their breath for very, very long periods of time (up to one hour) without penalty.   The coastal elves were wiped out by human tribesmen in the Fourth Millennium.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Elves are bipedal vertebrate humanoids in general anatomy. Elves possess the usual major systems:
  • Circulatory System
  • Digestive & Execratory System
  • Endocrine System
  • Integumentary System
  • Immune & Lymphatic System
  • Muscular System
  • Nervous System
  • Renal & Urinary System
  • Reproductive System
  • Respiratory System
  • Skeletal System

Genetics and Reproduction

Elves reproduce sexually, generally producing one child per pregnancy, though twinning can rarely occur (1 in 2500 pregnancies). When twinning does occur, 95% of the time it is the result of dual fertilization of multiple ova. The other 5% of twinned pregnancies are "identical" twins.

Growth Rate & Stages

Elves mature physically within 18 - 22 years, much the same as humans. Elves live between seven and eight centuries.

Ecology and Habitats

Elves are adapted to survive in all ecological niches found on Alzhonar. They are most often encountered in forest environments, but this is a matter of preference, not adaptation.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Elves possess enhanced aural and visual acuity. In particular, they are able to see more effectively in dim and low light conditions than do humans and some other humanoids.
