Penumbral Cloak

The Penumbral Cloak is what remains of the primal Umbral Cloak after the War of the Ancients and the ravaging of the Realm of Shadow.
When the Ultimate Spell was cast Shaelyon, as recorded in the Song of Shaelyon, the Shade-Sun shielded the Umbral Cloak causing it to be diminished into the Penumbral Cloak rather than outright destroyed.
The Penumbral Cloak is a sheet of elemental shadow which shades the Scorched Lands during half of each day enabling that which is known as "night" to those who dwell here.
In its severely weakened state the Penumbral Cloak does not provide cover of darkness, only twilight, giving the world barely enough time to recover from the oppressive heat of the day.

Some mystics claim that the Penumbral Cloak is the ephemeral remains of the metaphysical body of the Dark One after it was nearly destroyed by the Ultimate Spell.

Stories told by the various cultures of the Scorched Lands envision the Cloak of Twilight as being cast upon the heavens every night by Shaelyon and then being torn apart by the rabid pack of hunting animals that the Seven Suns are.
