Union of Magifactury Workers
The Union of Magifactury Workers (UMagiW) is a minor union made up of crafters of magickal arms, armor, items, trinkets and potions.
The UMagiW is small but plays an important role within Stygian society as it maintains most of the industrially and comercially used magitekhnologii and consistently refines the techniques utilized.
One of the greatest marvels of Stygian industry, the steam engine was developped by the UMagiW making it highly respected among the populace.
The union maintains a large workshop and lodgings in the Old Censors' Tower in the Sektor of Zwistroad.
Among the Great Unions the UMagiW is most likely to colaborate with the other unions, frequently engaging in joint projects with the Union of Smiths, Finesmiths and Metalworkers, the Union of Manufactury Workers and even the Union of Alchemists, Bakers and Cooks whose alchemists split from the larger UMagiW in the year 350.
Cause for the split were differences in labor philosophy: the UMagiW's remaining alchemists see alchemy primarily as an arcane art and view themselves as, in essence, turning raw spell energy into alchemical creations while those that departed to then form the Union of Alchemists, Bakers and Cooks view alchemy as a halfway point between what they call "chemisteryi" and an arcane art.
To them alchemy is primarily about mixing and transmuting the correct reagents in the right way to achieve a "pseudo-magickal effect".
