The Fall of Berez

The Fall of Berez is a book purchased by Osrin for Bodaway while they were in Vallaki.
Allegedly written 150 years after the fall of Berez, the book gives a brief history of Berez, and speculates on why the town fell. The overall conclusion: something pissed Strahd von Zarovich off.

Key Information

• Berez was once one of the three largest settlements in Barovia, before this land was even known by that name — not until the building of Castle Ravenloft was the village of Barovia founded
• Situated along the Luna River, in the fertile valley between the Tsolenka Pass, Mount Ghakis, and the eastern foothills, Berez flourished, trading with Vallaki by taking its famous rowboats up the river to Lake Zarovich
• However, over time, Berez fell in reputation, as Vallaki flourished and many of Berez’s best citizens migrated there
• 150 years ago, however, Strahd von Zarovich, lord of this land, destroyed Berez, using his mighty power to swell the waters of the Luna River, causing flooding as far away as Vallaki, and utterly washing away the town itself
