Celestis' Wings
There aren't a ton of known Enhanced before the 1900s. Not that they didn't exist, but there weren't as many, there weren't so many ways to catch them, and most of them tended to live private lives instead of using their abilities in a public fashion.
Celestis was one of those exceptions. In particular, her wings and her departure make her intriguing.
"I Will Return For My Body Part"
Not quite in a literal sense, since the wings are very much technology, but this is the gist of what she told her followers. She never claimed to be an angel, at least, but she did say a lot of weird things. Celestis had something she had to go do, and so she left the planet and left behind one of the biggest symbols of her powers, so she could reclaim it later. She should have taken it with her, seeing as how it kills anyone who tries to wear it (supposedly), and has caused no end of fuss over people trying to steal it away from the guardians she set. The Celestis Branch do an admirable job keeping the wings away from idiots. The wings look like they're made of silver, very clearly not normal feathers. They expand to a wingspan of what looks proportional used by an average sized woman. I haven't gotten a close enough look to tell if the backpiece is technologically complex or not. It probably is, but since I haven't even seen what it can be used for, it would be hard to work out.Symbolic of... Something?
The wings are a symbol to a lot of people. Never quite got to the level of religious fervor, but the wings have a meaning beyond Celestis herself. Personally, I've never understood it. Is it the connection to one of the earliest superheroes? Is it the strange tech involved? Is it the promise of someone coming back after a century, having gone on a crazy quest in the meantime?
