Church of the Cobalt Sky
The primary holy order of Payas . Their leader is High Priestess Emrary Danshi. They are headquartered in Shoaland. High Priestess Larissa Torum founded the Church of the Cobalt Sky as an early offshoot of The Sky's Crown. Forty years after the founding of the Sky's Crown, Priestess Larissa Torum set up the Church to preserve knowledge and shepherd the people in Paya's light. The Church of the Cobalt Sky is based in Másia in Shoaland, in the Manse of the Moon, as it had the largest number of Payas followers at the time.
The church has 3 main roles- Ecumenical, teaching, and recording. They have a role in the day-to-day life of their followers, working as midwives to help births and give newborns beautides, as well as hymenial roles as they run weddings and marry people. The Church works to teach the people how to read and write-they run free schools for children in all the cities, most towns, and some villages. In cities, they also run Scribe houses to earn more money - as all their members are able to read and write but not all peasants can, so they can be hired for their reading and writing skills. Their final role is recording knowledge. They keep vast libraries and scriptoriums. They are an order of scholars and devotees. They are collectors of esoteric knowledge. They believe the preservation of knowledge to be paramount.
The Church are to be more hands-on in their worship of Payas and conversion of everyday people into her service. The ecumenical members of the order wear azure robes with silver or grey details and trim, with an amulet of the symbol of the order cast in silver. The members who work as teachers just wear the silver amulet to identify themselves, and otherwise wear the normal clothes of the region (though usually in shades of blue). The midwives wear the robes, but the sleeves only reach the elbow, and they also wear a large apron and wimple.
