Republic of Bastiynia

At its core, Bastiynia is a republic. Elected representatives from the major cities form the senate to lead the country and decide all manners of government. An adult citizen of Bastiynia is eligible to vote for their local representatives if they own deeded land and have properly paid their taxes.

Structure

The heads of the military, justice, and other departments have full control over their domains, but they are each appointed by the senate. Thus, the senate effectively has ultimate authority over all of Bastiynia. There are eight prefecture cities in the nation. They each elect two representatives, except Xaicestra elects only one. These make up the fifteen members of the senate. There is no executive, but the Xaicestran senator has a few extra privileges, such as being able represent the senate during emergencies. For the purposes of representation, jurisdiction, and taxes, every other settlement is considered a municipality of a nearby prefecture city. For example, most settlements in eastern Bastiynia are municipalities of Anestead, and together they make up the Anestead Prefecture.
