Darnahl

(a.k.a. The Immortal Eye)

The God of Secrets, Dreams, and Spiders, Darnahl is one of the most unusual Gods of T'sara. He prefers to be left alone to his work in his Archive over meddling in any of the goings on of global or local events.

Divine Domains

Darnahl is one of the least prayed to gods in T'sara, which is to his preference. He makes no overt demands for prayer or sacrifice within his purview of dreams or secrets. The most that he exepcts is that people do not kill his spiders out of fear or hatred, as they are trying to do the task they were created for, just as any other living thing.

Many people incorrectly believe that Darnahl is master of all secrets ever known. His domain is only that of the living, which belies something of a dilemna he faces. The more people know the secret, the less powerful it is and the less likely it is that will stay a secret. The fewer people who know, the likelihood the secret will die with them. If someone were to learn the secrets of the dead, either through necromancy or the reading of forgotten texts, a secret is reborn, but these are rare exceptions.

Darnahl has the power to influence or even dictate dreams, but generally speaking, does not do so. Watching them and understanding is far preferable, as it shows mortal lives and thoughts as they truly are. Dreams, once they've left the mind of the person, become something approaching a tangible thing, and so he governs and resides in the Archive of Lost Dreams, along with his creation the SleepWalker, to ensure their proper care.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Sometimes known as the Immortal Eye, by nature of it being impossible to keep secrets from the God of them, a common symbol for Darnahl is a symbol of a spider with an open eye on its carapace. The type of spider, and the shape of the eye will often vary on the region, as well as the eyes of the mortal race that is creating the art.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Will most often manifest around others as a male drow. They don't have an especial fealty to him; he just fancies the appearance and likes drow because they tend to keep more secrets than the other races. He is also fond of manifesting as his beloved spiders, in any of their various forms.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Darnahl first created his spiders shortly after the woods and grasslands were created. He was intrigued by the idea of a living thing that does it's best work by obscuring it's very existance from the rest of the world, and preys on others through deception. There would be a number of ways this would be executed, and so Darnahl created a wide variety of his little spiders, that would grow to be both a necessary and feared aspect of the world.

Once Varissa created the Elves, he found himself very much like the spider. seemingly small, distant, seeking to learn more about the world. By speaking to one Elf and not the other, he created the first Secret, and would govern over them jealously. Varissa would find out soon enough, but not before Darnahl had entrenched himself in the minds and behaviors of all mortals.

There is a disagreement in historical events, even among Gods, regarding a fued between Darnahl, God of Dreams, and Frida, Goddess of Memories. Frida contends that she created her domain, and that Darnahl stole and copied her work in order to create and govern Dreams, while Darnahl claims that she tole from him. Their respective domains dictate that both of them know what the truth is, but neither are compelled by their domains to speak truth. Although largely outside of the concern of most mortals, those aware of the fued are lead to ask a question, to which there is no real answer: Is a Dream simply a Memory that didn't happen, or is a Memory a Dream that actually did happen?

Sexuality

Being the God of both dreams and secrets, Darnahl has been exposed to just about any sexual encounter hypothetically possible, and even a number of them that are not. For so long as mortals keep trying to keep their sexual encounters a private affair, Darnahl will govern and be aware of them. Coincidentally, Darnahl is known by the few Gods that still interact with him to be a pervert; likely because of this exposure. Some suspect that he visits lonely women as a mortal in order to create more secrets and maintain or grow his power. Some with an evem lower estimation of him believe that Darnahl is directly influencing dreams of mortals to exercise his own sexual desires and fantasies.
Of course, it's not like he would ever tell anyone about it, if he were asked.

Mental Trauma

What people have done in the darkness, the cruelties they commit onto each other where no one else can see. The dark fantasies one imagines in their sleep. Darnahl is aware of it all. More than most gods, he has seen the worst of what mortals are capable of doing and imagining. By nature of his aspects, he is forced to keep this all to himself, which doesn't help the god's behavior or his reputation

Intellectual Characteristics

Darnahl Is intellectually obsessive and eccentric. He knows every secret of every mortal alive, and is responsible for each of their dreams as well. Although he technically knows all of these things, even with divine power he not consciously aware of all of them at all times. Trying to keep the relevant secrets of the moment at the forefront while also governing dreams causes him to seem incredibly unfocused and even manic.

Morality & Philosophy

Darnahl does not make any moral argument through his divinity. He has seen both the best and worst of people through their secrets and their dreams. His only opinion is that people generally try to keep secrets about things that need not be secrets, largely out of fear and shame. Such timid ideas are to his benefit, so he is not terribly inclined to command others to change.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Darnahl has a jealous relationship with Dineth. Lord of the Dead, he has more secrets than anyone; everything that is his was once Darnahl's.

The Six Sisters, whom his power stems from, pay him little mind, viewing him an eccentric best left to his own devices. Although his doman over secrets and dreams affects all sentient beings, he has no real power over their lives, and has not used what power he does have to try to affect world events in any way.

Vrishka in particular finds Darnahl an irritant for refusing her. Over the last two centuries, she's tried to seek knowledge and answers into The Immortal Emperor; the leader of The Intransican Empire who showed impossible powers in the Triumverate War, and claims to have ascended to Godhood. How he obtained his powers, despite not being a God, and who he truly is, Darnahl must know on account of his domain, but has refused to give so much as a hint as to her requests.


Despite Darnahl's efforts to try and move on and mend fences with Frida and their argument of who stole from who, her domain as Goddess of Memories means that she literally cannot forget about it.

Social Aptitude

Darnahl does not like crowds, and can often be socially distant with the people he interacts with, god and mortal alike. At times, he can also be gregarious and charming. Still, even at his best days, and when he is trying to pretend to be someone that he is not, his inherent nature of God of Secrets forces him to keep distance from others.
