The Shroudguard

Where do they operate?

Their center is on the continent Grimbor; however, they have had a deal with the Stonesteppers in Muaclun for a couple of years.

Their structure

They have roughly a dozen members, but only the Ferryman knows their number. Nobody knows each other. Their only contact is the Ferryman. The Ferryman itself is not a leader position. Its responsibility is to transport people from Grimbor to Muaclun.

Their responsibility

The Shroudguard was founded by a few young nobles shortly after the Rending. Their goal was to uphold the hierarchical structure of Then and protect the entitled people. However, they quickly realized that the vast destruction caused by the Rending destroyed many of the noble families and people who could have rebuilt Tacillia. While keeping their original goals, their activity shifted a bit, and they started to concentrate on people, especially young people, who they deemed worthy and could be leaders in the future. Usually, when a Shroudguard finds someone they consider a deserving person to be guarded, the Shroudguard will take up residence close to the person until their service is no longer required. This service can be anything the Shroudguard is skilled in, from basic skills or reading and writing through crafting, artisanship, and fighting skills to the finer arts of leadership. Of course, only some Shroudguards are skilled in everything, but they have an extensive network of people they know from their travels and can always call upon their help. When the Shroudguard service is not required anymore, they leave the person or family to search for someone else they can work with. However, anyone who was in contact with a Shroudguard can ask for their help in the future.
In the last couple of years, through the agreement with the Stonesteppers, the truly exceptional children have been provided with a sanctuary among the Peak at Peak Haven.

Their enemies

They are primarily assassins and assassin guilds funded by the wealthy and powerful who want to maintain the current establishment that keeps them in power.
I wish the Stonesteppers would take on more children. Maybe we can extend the agreement somehow that will be beneficial for everyone
