Outer Ironspur
Outer Ironspur is compromised by two distinct areas. At the end of the mountain pass sits the Ironspur Trade Center, a large open marketplace teeming with activity. Traders and caravans making the long trek to Ironspur stay in the valley as they make contact with the clans under the mountain.
Wealthier (or more connected) visitors travel up an open road to the Ironspur Terrace, right outside the Great Gates of Ironspur. The Terrace has inns, taverns, shops, and other amenities. Three fortresses sit on the Terrace, the Outer Gatehouse, the South Battlements and East Keep, keeping watch over the Great Gates, the Ironspur Pass, and the Trade Center for signs of trouble.
Demographics
The population of Outer Ironspur varies day to day and season to season. While the Terrace has a dozens of permanent residents, most of the people one meets in Outer Ironspur are itinerant. About half of the permanent residents of the Terrace are dwarven, but many of the non-dwarf residents of Ironspur live on the Terrace.
Government
Captain Volund Skull-Splitter is commander of the Outer Gatehouse and all of the outer defenses. As commander of the defenses, Volund is in charge of all Outer Ironspur, but he very rarely takes an interest in the activities of the Trade Center or the Terrace. He only becomes involved if the security of the dwarf hold is compromised or threatened in some way.
Merchants and visitors are much more likely to deal with Ragnilda Deepmind, head of the Ironspur Customs House. Ragnilda sets tariffs, checks for contraband, and oversees the transfer of goods into the mountain.
Defences
The three garrisons are always fully staffed with Iron Guardsmen and Stone Guardsmen, although their numbers are kept secret.
Industry & Trade
Outer Ironspur exists as a trading ground. Its entire purpose is to facilitate trade into and out of the dwarf hold.

Geography
Ironspur Trade Center
The Trade Center has many temporary merchant stalls and areas, and a few permanent wooden structures as well. No stone structures are permitted in the Trade Center. Because this deep valley only gets sunlight for a few hours near highsun, most stalls are lit by lanterns.Ironspur Terrace
To the north of the Trade Center, a ramp slopes up the Ironspur Terrace. Three citadels, bristling with ballistae and catapults sit on the terrace, behind which opens a large fissure into the mountain. The north walls of the terrace have been hollowed out to make shops and homes for many dwarven families.LOCATIONS
