Bramble King

Written by Chrundle_the_Great

The Bramble King was once an elven man; by attuning to the Bramble Crown, he changed himself into an archfey and ruled over a lavish grove within the Fellgrim Forest. When his crown was stolen by the Bramble Prince, he lost much of his power and lamented his fate while sitting on his crumbling throne.   Reminded by Henry McOak that elves can change, the Bramble King agreed, compelled him with geas to retrieve his crown, then pierced himself through the heart with a cold iron spike.
Right you are. Return my crown, and I will be reborn. You will be remade and given a place of honor in my court!
— The Bramble King

Description

Still bearing the lithe frame of the elf he once was, the Bramble King's skin had hardened into a sturdy oak. His eyes were like pools of onyx, difficult to read. The sole mark on his body was a vicious splintering on his brow, where the crown had been hacked off and stolen.

Personality

Mercurial as fey tend to be, with his crown stolen, the Bramble King mostly vascillated between intense rage and near-inconsolable sorrow.

Possessions

Once a mortal man, when he attuned to the Bramble Crown, he was granted immense power and transformed into an archfey of considerable power. Without it, he pulsed with raw, chaotic magic and had complete control of nature in his presence. With it, there was no telling the depth of the wellspring of power he could access.

Relationships

At his full power, he was welcomed to dance with courtesans of the Summer Court. More than the loss of power, he lamented his inability to experience the joy of visiting those halls again.

History

Once an elven man, the Bramble King changed into an archfey when he attuned to the Bramble Crown. He ruled over a secluded grove in the Fellgrim Forest and enjoyed time in the halls of the Summer Court. It is unknown where he got the crown from, but the Order of the White Stag claims that he stole it from them many centuries ago.   Ambassador for the elves, Aelin suggested that Kapital deal with this individual to earn the trust of his order; he never mentioned the Bramble King's rank as an archfey.   Upon meeting the Bramble King in his ruined grove, the group were restrained by thorny vines and powerless against the archfey's earthshaking rage. Only Henry could speak with him in Sylvan. Little by little, he guided the conversation while listening to the Bramble King's frequent swings between anger and grief.   When Henry gently reminded the king that elves can change, while eladrin are stagnant, the king's eyes gleamed mischeviously. He agreed, believing he would be reborn if Henry reclaimed the crown; he charmed Henry to do so, promising him a permanent place in his court, before killing himself with cold iron.   Skylla, a warlock of Baba Yaga, later revealed that the crown had been stolen by a troll from GorGo's chiefdom who sought to start his own faction.
