Deadlow Peak

Written by Chrundle_the_Great

Description

Deadlow Peak is a small mountain near Grod. The townsfolk travel to the peak to make use of its obsidian-rich mines.

Inhabitants

The miners of Grod visit the peak regularly, and only the usual cave creatures, like bats, oozes, and fungi, used to live there.

Factions

Due to the frequent starfalls in and around Mount Skirech, Chief GorGo's soldiers marched through Grod, kidnapped a dozen miners, and forced them to mine starmetal and other rare materials from the peak.

Flora & Fauna

With the portal to the Elemental Plane of Fire open, the mines were shaped by the plane's powerful arcana; pools of magma formed, volcanic glass formed between rock fractures, and strange but deadly creatures nested in the tunnels, including massive fire jellyfish and monstrous magma serpents.   Also, a cult of fire salamanders delved deeper into the mines to widen the rift for their king, Klauth, to be able to return to Gaes.

Locations

At the very end of the cave network was a massive room with carved reliefs of beings from the Elemental Plane of Fire, such as the son of Surtr.

History

When Deadlow Peak rumbled with strange quakes and the ashfall began, some of the miners were captured by Chief GorGo's well-equipped soldiers. Both Mayor Jasper and the mage Okyron implored Kapital to travel to the mines: Jasper because of the missing townsfolk, Okyron because of strange arcana he sensed within the mountains.   Deep underneath the mines, Kapital found the cause of the natural phenomena and GorGo's interest in Deadlow Peak: a portal to the Elemental Plane of Fire. With the bard Oswald sacrificing himself to close the rift and the others sneaking the miners out through a hidden tunnel, GorGo's soldiers left with rare materials, and Jasper was thankful to Kapital and agreed to possible trade between Grod and the guild.
The mountain was reshaped by the Elemental Plane of Fire
