Description

Grod is a small mining town in the foothills of Mount Skirech.

Inhabitants

Most of the townsfolk are dwarves and gnomes who are escaped slaves or expatriates of Gwaylar Vale. The people are industrious and accepting of outsiders.   With so few combatants in Grod, the town only has two guards: Rory and Geoff.

Factions

The following factions are currently operating in Grod:   The following factions were formerly operating in Grod:
  • GorGo's Chiefdom

Economy

The bulk of Grod's economy is driven by mining obsidian in nearby Deadlow Peak.

Locations

Despite the people's unfortunate pasts, Grod is relatively prosperous and home to several skilled artisans. Acolytes of Joaquin even established a base there, believing in the town's potential for growth.

History

Founded by escapees and freedom fighters from the oppressive Gwaylar Vale mines, Grod was constructed a short distance from Deadlow Peak; mining was in their blood, but they intended to do it on their own terms. Around that time, Jasper became the mayor because no one else was comfortable with the responsibility.   When Deadlow Peak rumbled with strange quakes and the ashfall began, some of the miners were captured by Chief GorGo's well-equipped soldiers. Both Mayor Jasper and the mage Okyron implored Kapital to travel to the mines: Jasper because of the missing townsfolk, Okyron because of strange arcana he sensed within the mountains.   Deep underneath the mines, Kapital found the cause of the natural phenomena and GorGo's interest in Deadlow Peak: a portal to the Elemental Plane of Fire. With the bard Oswald sacrificing himself to close the rift and the others sneaking the miners out through a hidden tunnel, GorGo's soldiers left with rare materials, and Jasper was thankful to Kapital and agreed to possible trade between Grod and the guild.
