Keep on the Borderlands

Description

A walled fortress atop a hill, the Keep on the Borderlands is a refuge for all who are threatened by the power struggles and harsh living conditions caused by the collapse of Gaes.

Inhabitants

A safe haven within the rough-and-tumble Borderlands, the keep has a diverse populace who have either been displaced or seek shelter from Gaes's ever-present political conflicts.   Now under the Poisoned Cup's control, those people have been imprisoned by bugbear and yuan-ti slavers, led by the Zealot and Sadai, respectively.

Factions

Prior to entering the keep, adventurers and mercenaries were asked to hang up their shields, vowing to defend the keep in times of need. Many different groups made this pledge.   The following factions are currently operating within the keep:
  • The Poisoned Cup
  • The Zealot's Cult
The following factions were formerly operating within the keep:

Notable Inhabitants

  • General Torred, the commander of the Terror Troops.
  • Korigir, the castellan.
  • Sadai, the head priestess of the local contingent.
  • The Zealot, the fanatical cult leader.

Locations

The keep is home to many shops started by artisans, merchants, and others who were able to sell their wares to the many travelers passing through the Borderlands.

History

After the collapse of Gaes, Torred defended the Keep on the Borderlands, while Korigir saw to its management. Although the structure was defended well, both men suspected that the nearby Caves of Chaos could prove dangerous and hired Kapital to investigate.   With the Poisoned Cup seizing control of the keep and Kapital coordinating with allies to drive them out of the caves, the Keep on the Borderlands became the primary base of operations for the Zealot's cult and a subgroup of the Poisoned Cup, led by the priestess Sadai.
