Ishaal Khan

Fifteen years ago, Ishaal Khan died and was succeeded by his only remaining heir, Devaas Khan, the son of his first wife Kelis Khan Grishovna. In life, Ishaal was a mostly unremarkable ruler whose main feature was his pride and refusal to accept defeat—even at great cost. He was, like his father before him, a large, black-furred gnoll and was known to often wear elaborate braided styles. He married Kelis for political gain and Indira Ashtaar for spiritual gain, but he passionately loved Indira to the point of obsession and pursued her relentlessly. His first child, Ishani Khan Ashtaar, was hidden away from him after he murdered his general Barak Jadzeran for having an affair with Indira.   His rule was also marred by his inability to give up on his aggressive pursuits. His insistence on trying to expand the city-state's territories led him into conflicts with local warlords and even Sarkhaan, although Kelis's diplomatic efforts averted outright war. It was during these conflicts that Barak Jadzeran distinguished himself as a general, although he vocally opposed continued efforts in the region and eventually retired early, much to Ishaal's chagrin.
