Ristalpool, port town

Ristalpool is a large port town on the island of Clastalpool, on of the larger islands in the Orix Chain.

Demographics

Like most port towns in Tanaheim it has a very mixed population.  The history of the settlement says that dwarves settled here two centuries ago to avoid persecution from their society.  These days few dwarves remain replaced by displaced sailors, deserters, and those hiding from past crimes.  Despite their varied pasts most of the denizens are skilled craftspeople and genuinely enjoy their new lives.  They self police and the tight knit community means very little violence amongst those that live here.

Government

A small council of three runs the town, they employ many consultants who help with decision making.  Only the three are elected however.  Currently the council is an old dwarf named Gunnerson who is said to have been one of the original founders, a human woman named Marguerite in her 60's, and a Water Genasi woman named Milaxin Moss.

Defences

Almost none, the town strives for peace and acts as a safe haven for any ships in trouble near by.

Infrastructure

Like most port towns it is built of stone and local timber.  The dark ironwood trees of the island chain are thin but strong.  Most of the buildings are built of woven round trees.  Most are not big enough to create planks.  Limestone, Sandstone and coral make up most of the stone and mortar that helps makes stairs and walls.  The people of the islands have created a concrete mix from these ingredients added with a mineral in the sands to make a strong cement mix.  With these components they can make buildings up to three stories tall.  These tall houses stack on top of one another as they build up into a hill leading to the center of the island.

Assets

Abundant fishing of coral sharks, fat fish, mussels and clams mean the populace eats pretty well.  Chickens, pheasants, and small goats were brought in a century ago and are farmed on small plots further up the mountain.
