2024 Summer Camp: Homework
~ * ' Summer Camp Prep Month! ' * ~
Gah, I'm excited. Regardless of what's been happening in my life, I've always managed to complete summer camp challenges, be it copper or diamond. This year feels a little different. I don't feel the pressures to write perfectly or "enough." At the moment, I just want enjoy the process and get excited with the community.

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
Weaving: Fulfilling art practice, healing, or manipulative tactic? The morality varies but its primarily the purpose explored here. The purpose and planning that goes into a marvelous tapestry is going to be different than random things strung together. While both are beautiful, they exude different kinds of beauty. One is the beauty of intention, the other is beauty of intuition. Neither is better or worse than the other. Both are important and have their place in story telling.

- Weaving a new tapestry
- Reworking an old tapestry

Refuge
Ideas and Such
- Priscilla's Potent Pastries - Tea, pastries, friendly people, & a cat, if that's your thing. It's definitely mine.
- Vie Aranche - Unknown by the world at large, this fertile land is coursing with magic that will grow any plant.
- Webbed Temple - A refuge for souls who need to be realigned with themselves after years of suffering. A torture building for others. Depends on who you ask.
- Mark of the Survivor - Finding peace within yourself and embracing it.
- Bardway - Welcomes musicians from Stagpost the safety to perform and be themselves.
- Luna Asylum - This reclaimed building is now dedicated to embracing magic and inner selves.
Weaving
- Art in and of itself is a refuge. Creating something with your hands especially. Perhaps, a textile of sorts will fit here? Could be a Claw Continent counterpart to the Heart of Asma? Or something made in Aquafalls.
- Written and spoken word can be a refuge. The Grimmers in Grimgate find their voices in slam poetry.
- Your work can be your refuge. For some medical personel, the world cannot be controlled but a suture can.
- Clerics and physicians have the ability to heal. Their presence can be a comfort to others and their abilities can be a refuge for themselves.
- The possibility of rebirth is a refuge. Whether that rebirth comes through persistent attempts to grow or reanimation, certainly changes things...
- For some, the opposite is true. The promise of death and an afterlife.
- Wielding magic or science can be a comfort. Safety & protection, however, offer a different kind of comfort than heart-settling peace.
- Lands cultivated by natural magic can offer a refuge, like the Vie Aranche.
Accountability: After life life-ing last year, I threw off my worldbuilding's groove.
We're sorry but you've thrown off the worldbuilding's groove.
I'm pretty self-motivated, so the accountabilibuddy system isn't quite my thing. Mutual excitement and fangirling over WA and nerdy shtuff, on the other hand, *chef's kiss*. This year, I'm hoping to get a few friends into Summer Camp (calling you out, Lastelleluna!!).~Sorryyyyyyyyyy~

Assignment 2: Create a bank of inspirations! Quotes, music, description of experiences and shower thoughts, etc.
Assignment 3: Find art and pictures that inspire you, and grab a map if you don't have one (and need one).
Assignment 4: Check your inspirations again. Are they still relevant? Can you find any that better represent the current state of your project?
Assignment 2: Create a bank of inspirations! Quotes, music, description of experiences and shower thoughts, etc.
I believe in a thing called love

The major groups whose beliefs will be analyzed during Summer Camp are the followers of Malmi and Basi. As such, magic and technology won't be a super important theme, unless Orie Country is analyzed in the prompts. They rely on technology and abhor magic.
Weaving
Malmi's Followers | Basi's Followers |
---|---|
Malmi wove the world, bringing life. Weaving is a virtuous act. | Malmi manipulates the world. Weaving exists on a spectrum and can be used for good (artistry) or evil (manipulation). |
Malmi's Followers | Basi's Followers |
---|---|
Healing magic is good. Necromantic magic is evil. | Life magic exists on a spectrum but is not defined by good or evil. Necromantic magic is pure and justifiable. People's intentions have the ability to make it evil. |
Malmi's Followers | Basi's Followers |
---|---|
Magic is the purest way to honor Malmi, followed by the textile arts. Opinions on technology is fairly neutral. | Both magic and technology can be used for good or evil. Magic honors Basi, especially life magic. Technology is a neutral-positive bonus. |

Little warning: these playlists are PolyJamorous, contain lyrics, and loosely relate to the themes. I put these together for jamming between prompts. My typical playlists for writing are classical music or video game/movie soundtracks but I wanted something a little different this year.

Assignment 3: Review your world homepage to hook potential readers!
Assignment 4: Take a look at your author profile and pillar articles on your world and polish them!
Decay
This topic is part of Tarantellia's core themes: Life & Death! The last week of prompts is going to be amaaazing.
Fun side note: My partner randomly picked The Last of Us for us to watch tonight. The ideas are percolating. Now, I just need to convince him to join us for Summer Camp.
Life & Death
In Tarantellia, the cycles of life and death are a core theme relating to 1) how the world was made, 2) the magic pulsing through the planet's core, 3) a major tenet of the necromatic deity Basi's followers, 4) the seasons on the Claw Continent, and 5) how destruction births growth. Focusing on decay, there's a component that things may never be the same again. Birth and rebirth bring about a newness that conformity cannot control.
Weaving
- web-caught creatures inevitable decay - tie into Basi's circumstances
- woven tapestries wear down over time - thread bare
- *stretch alert* stories becoming unrecognizable through generations
- lies and manipulation causing irreparable decay of trust
- *checks notes* ah... uhm... decay of...sutures. welp, someone's having a bad night...
- decay of skillsets
- downward spiral of abilities
- use of magic/technology for steady, persistent destruction
