This chapter covers the races that exist on Valerick, starting with the seven 'races of illumination' which is a relative term, but generally means that they are....well so much as the term can be applied, they are 'good' (see normal player character races). They are accepted, they are untainted, they don't normally worship daemons. The so called children of the elements. The random table presented here is the unmodified average for the continent, each nation state will have slightly altered odds in their own setting material, and this is true of provinces or even large settlements should you only be intending to play in one place, or as a player you wish to fit your backstory meta by using the most accurate of metrics. These alterations are generally subtle however, and as such, this table is an easy to use average to just get into the game.
After that comes the chapter on the Tainted Beings, which are the twisted mirrors, at least by most peoples' perception, of the elemental beings. They are where it all went wrong, where the Abyssal beings, the so called Ruinous Powers, snuck in. managing to pin a small door between realms and planes open enough to exert influence. As a note to GMs, these races are here for your use so you can create intelligent foes, enemies that have a character build. That said they are not meant to normally be used by Players. Unless your running an Abyssal campaign, where the point is wanton destruction, embracing the darkness, you shouldn't let players play these.
These are the playable races, and as such there will be listed a host of information in regards to character creation. Provided here is also the random racial rolling table, though this is the overall average and quite.....generic and rounded to represent the continent. See each nation's brief introductory entry in this book if you wanna roll for your actual home's demographical chances. If you roll your race randomly and keep the result, gain 30 extra exp. If you aren't happy roll again and if you take that second option, gain 15 exp instead. Otherwise pick your preferred race but gain no starting bonus exp.
