Valerick, a massive continent, multicultural and diverse, but its nations united under a common ideal. TO stand against the dark. Led by Nightvale, by the light of their Empress Cyndra Fiorabrynd the II, blessings unto her, this continent is amidst an amazing revitalization, a rebirth of sorts, as they recover from the Sundering, and learn to deal with the new reality of their existence, of the reality of the Black Mists, and of Daemons and such dark magicks. Coming to terms with this new world order.
This landmass is the major civilized land, though their are two others, Gratos and Ryna. But Valerick stands as the most populated, and the most diverse civilization. They are in an age of Revitalization after the events surrounding the Anvil of Creation, and are at the beginning of an industrial revolution. Two Technological Paths have opened to them and the continent of Valerick is in the midst of a growth spurt that sees a strange mix of magic, feudal nations, but with more modernized tech to go with it. These three technologies are battling it out economically, and sometimes this spills into conflict. But within this revitalization is a darkness as well. The Crusaders, their cult rampant and legal now, act under the 'divine guidance of Empress Theodora the First', and are the terror of all folk. Disease stalks the land, and the Void waits at the edges of civilization, its minions ever hungry.
The two tech options, first off are the dwarves, who have cracked steam and coal power, specifically trains. This has been a boon to the northland and the NPA allowing quicker overland travel of goods and people to key large cities, to be dispersed faster. They've yet to crack this sort of tech for ships or boats, but some brilliant minds are working on the project as you read this.
Next, the gnomes and their strange clockwork machines. They've gone a different route, taking to the skies with large airships, though again, only major settlements have the facilities necessary. They do this with clockwork machinery working the propellers and wings of these vessels, along with more conventional sails, the math calculations to make these work simply astounding. All these clockwork parts are powered by a complex Magnetic system that, that is in a constant cycle of pushing and pulling various pieces of equipment at high speeds around and around, back and forth, up and down. This complex equipment is very new and the Southern Nations of Valerick have benefited greatly, especially those of the SCTA.
Both these nations have shared their tech, but it was done reluctantly as they are economic competitors and as these are relatively new technologies, the further you get from Suranth, Waston or Nightvale, the less and less available these standards of travel become.
These technologies as will be seen here, have also led to interesting 'creatures' along with weapons, armor, and other strange and wonderous items. Welcome to a world on the rise, but a world with the Void, the mirror of corruption pushing at its edges. A land of innovation, yet conservativist paranoia. A land of invention, but a land where the wrong words to the wrong person can see your door smashed in and you burned as a heretic. Welcome to Valerick!
