New Solarin

New Solarin, built on the ashes of the city destroyed by their own goddess, is the center of Soulmeliti life and culture. In honor of Tyloma, the city itself exudes beauty. Built across the Silver River, the city blends into the forest’s great redwoods. Several small canals connect the outer parts of the city, and a few extend to the River of Tears just beyond its eastern fringe, with the river and marble bridges in blues, pinks, and whites arch both canals and the river. Most houses are made of stone with beams of brightly painted wood woven into them. Many have the great trees built right into their walls. Soulmeliti architects have, in fact, learned that with the support of these great trees, stone buildings can easily reach as high as ten stories. For the most part, the Soulmeliti did not cut down trees to build the city. Instead, New Solarin’s flower lined streets are both narrow and wide, winding through trees and buildings in chaotic fashion. Still, a few a fallen sick over the past two thousand years, and their mammoth stumps now hold elevated buildings of their own.

New Solarin

In the eastern part of the city, a large field lays at the base of the Styvalhyme Palace. The palace, occupied by both the Styvalhyme and A'dorno families, started a revolution in architecture. The palace’s first floor rests some fifty feet above the forest floor, supported by the branches of fifteen great redwoods. The idea of living in the trees took hold. What began as a trend for wealthy family homes has spiraled into a second city that rests in the treetops over the first. While the Styvalhyme Palace's marble glitters in the sunlight and shadows beneath the redwood canopy, most of the second city is made of brightly painted wood. Walkways and even a few suspension bridges connect the trees of the second city, which has grown wider than its ground level companion.
