Sagu Jungle
The dense jungle surrenders to a lush and lavish expanse. At its center uncoil the spires of Qarsi Palace.
Sprawling outwards from the winding Marang River is a vast, dense, rainforest. Lumbering, herbivorous great beasts graze among shaded groves, and iridescent insects alight the vast shallow ponds and wetlands. The sturdy forests of the Sagu often root themselves in the muggy wetlands.
Geography
The lush tropical jungles, fetid swamps, and wandering river deltas of the Sagu Jungle serve as the ancestral home of the Silumgar. Many enormous beasts that defy comprehension dwell within the vast jungle canopies. Much of the jungle remains uncharted, with the denizens of clan Silumgar preferring to stick close to the known waterways.
Locations
Located in large river basin south of the Qal Sisma mountain range, the Sagu Jungle is fed by a countless number of river tributaries that support its plant and wildlife. Within the jungle are numerous rivers, marshes, wetlands, and deltas:- The Guldu. These are a series of islands that dot the massive river delta. In the waters and on the islands lurk all kinds of monsters and undead abominations that guard the inner waterways from ships and intruders that would dare invade Silumgar's domain.
- The Gurmag Swamps. An expanse of shallow lakes and flooded wetlands within low hills and mysterious lowlands.
- The Marang River. Flowing through the Sagu is the Marang River, the lifeblood of the jungle. Here, snowmelt from the mountains creates the great river.
Fauna & Flora
The Sagu Jungle is home to unique forms of life not seen anywhere else on Tarkir. Networks of interconnected wetlands and thick jungle undergrowth have resulted in a range of creatures entirely unique to the area.
Large belts of mangroves trace the Marang riverways and wetlands of the jungle. Forming tangled, maze like pathways through the twisting root systems. Further inland, the jungle becomes characterized by multiple stories of vegetation, consisting of a variety of trees and plants.
An incalculable number of creatures reside within the Sagu Jungle. With only a small portion of the jungle having been mapped, it is likely that this is only a small percentage of the region's biodiversity.
Crocodiles, fish, and snakes can be found within the waters of the Marang River. In the jungle proper, groups of apes and orangutans can be found nesting in the canopies. Tigers and panthers can be spotted stalking the forest shadows. Brightly colored vipers and frogs can be found among the branches, as beautiful as they are venomous. Hydras are not an uncommon sight lumbering through the forest.
