True Magicians

The True Magicians are a loose association of some of the most powerful wizards, witches, sorcerers and other magic-wielders on Earth. Their aims are usually broadly aligned to other superheroes - protect the planet and its residents from magical and supernatural threats - but the relationship between the True Magicians and other superhero groups is often strained by the former's refusal to become involved in many threats of a mundane or alien nature. It is also true that the True Magicians have included among their numbers individuals generally considered to be villainous. The rationale behind granting membership to beings like Morgause is sound, in that as long as they are members they are bound by the Compact - a set of rules governing the use of magic by members of the True Magicians - but that doesn't allay all suspicion that the organization may be slightly less than completely heroic in its aims. The current leader of the True Magicians is Midknight, although his authority over the other members is somewhat limited. Young people with magical talent are occasionally invited to train with the True Magicians, although this training generally involves a lot of riddles and tests and not much actual teaching of spells and rituals. A lucky few may even be invited to visit the Templum Doctrinae, the True Magicians' shared base, library and repository of artifacts.
