Livre 4, Chapitre 3: Show No Mercy

In "Show no mercy," the adventurers find themselves in a race against time as the undead creatures continue to work towards summoning the Harvester of Souls. The adventurers must face off against powerful undead generals and their armies to prevent the avatar from reaching Tellene.

The Eye of Ksour has ressurfaced, and needs to be taken out of the undead's grasp.

The undead generals are named:

  • Baron Zoltan the Undying
  • Duchess Isadora the Shadow
  • Queen Vespera the Nightwalker
  • Aziel, Emperor of the Corpses
  • Plot points/Scenes

    1. The Ghostly Proclamation

    Ancient legends speak of a secluded oracle residing deep within the Khydoban Desert. This oracle is said to possess the unique ability to see the ebb and flow of spiritual energies, especially those connected with the realm of the dead. Many believe her to be a myth, but those who've sought her guidance and found her swear by her prophecies.

    Scene Description: As the undead threat intensifies, locals and refugees speak in hushed tones about the Oracle of Khydoban, who has been having haunting visions of the land bathed in eternal darkness. The Gehenna Squad, realizing the urgency, seeks her out. When they find her, she's in a trance-like state, her eyes milky white. Around her, ethereal apparitions manifest - they are the residual spirits of the desert, disturbed by the unbalance the undead are causing. These spirits, through the Oracle, proclaim the rise of the Harvester of Souls via his generals and the significance of the Eye of Ksour. The Oracle herself implores the Squad to act, providing them with cryptic clues about each general.

    2. Baron Zoltan the Undying

    Scene Description: Found in a haunted mausoleum, Zoltan uses ghoulish minions and the terrain to his advantage. His primary ability is to regenerate, making him a prolonged battle. To defeat him, the Squad must trap him in a consecrated area within the mausoleum and prevent his regeneration.

    3. Duchess Isadora the Shadow

    Scene Description: In the heart of a dense, misty forest, Isadora hides in the shadows, launching surprise attacks. The trees themselves seem to come alive to protect her. Players must use light-based tactics to reveal and pin her down, and then strike her down in her corporeal form.

    4. Queen Vespera, the Nightwalker

    Scene Description: Residing atop a cliffside fortress, Vespera commands hordes of flying undead. The Squad must scale the fortress, battling airborne enemies and Vespera's mind-control abilities. The key is to break her control over the flying minions, turning them against her.

    5. Emperor Rotos of the Corpses

    Scene Description: Rotos operates from a sprawling catacomb, and his ability lies in animating and controlling countless undead simultaneously. The Squad has to disrupt his control through ritualistic means scattered in the catacombs and face him in a massive central chamber.

    6. Protecting the Eye of Ksour

    Scene Description: With the generals defeated, the Squad's next challenge is to defend the Eye of Ksour from a relentless onslaught of undead. This would be a prolonged defense battle where waves of different undead types assault their position. Strategies, barriers, traps, and teamwork are essential.

    7. Twisted Threads and Shadows

    Scene Description: After the intense battle defending the Eye of Ksour, the Gehenna Squad finds a captured undead servant who isn't entirely mindless, possessing shreds of his former self. Under intense interrogation, this creature manages to convey a fragmented tale.

    He reveals that the generals, while powerful, were never truly free-willed. Instead, they were under the thrall of a mysterious necromancer who held their "soul-chains". These chains are a metaphysical construct that bound the generals' will to the necromancer.

    However, the creature also hints that the necromancer isn't the true mastermind. Through muddled phrases and riddles, it hints at a shadowy puppeteer manipulating events from behind the scenes. The Gehenna Squad, using the clues given by the undead servant and the Oracle's previous prophecies, deduces that this puppeteer might be the Confuser of Ways.

    8. Conclusion

    The chapter then concludes with the Gehenna Squad realizing they must delve deeper into this conspiracy, hunting down this elusive necromancer while also preparing to confront the Confuser of Ways. This sets the stage for the next chapter, where layers of deceit, manipulation, and power plays will be unveiled. The Squad will have to not only confront physical adversaries but navigate a maze of treachery and illusion.
