Waycabin Canalview
Canalview is the smalles of the Waycabins1, having been an actual for-real castle at one point in its history. It was used during the The Kobold Accord and the ensuing wars,
No one knows when or why it was abandoned, but most of its stones have been cannabalized for other uses over the centuries, and only the old throne room and the castle's foundations were left intact. The old throne room, at that, was only left standing becasuse it was rumored to have a curse on it, or in it, or around it...something or other was cursed, and the locals want no part of it. The staff have had to be brought in from elsewhere, and many of the rooms remain perpetually empty as news of the curse spreads far and wide. Most passengers prefer to overnight in their cabins on the train, saying they get a "sad", or "hopeless" feeling while they are there. Indeed, many people even avoid the complementary six course meal offered, instead dining on the more than adequate food available on the railway cars.
Purpose / Function
The Waycabins© are the TPLC™'s stopover resorts on the luxury line. This castle was specially built for the The Kobold Accord and the dangers inherent in it, but it has long been mostly cannabalized for stones and iron.
This is the smallest of the Waycabins©, and is generally avoided by the locals and staff alike, unless they have to go for some reason. Still, it is the last stop before the Bay Passage, so the company uses it as a staging ground for the luxuriant ferry ride ahead.
Design
With the old throne room in the center, the compound spreads out from there in an inverted 'vee', with the courtyard and docks contained within.
Entries
The entries and exits are all coffered wood doors.
Alterations
Only the original throne room and foundations were left; it's built atop those.
Architecture
Solid stone construction, originally, but with the refurbishments it is now a nice and modern post and lintel affair, with coffered wood panelling and siding. A large viewing room was also built alongside the Waycabin©, ostensibly for the use of the nobility waiting for the ferry. It has become, however, the usual place to find Uriah Heap, the groundskeeper of the estate.
He may be the only sane one left...
Defenses
The building purportedly holds a curse, a holdover from when it had been overrun by a sea of small, scaly bodies when the kobolds came.
History
The original castle held the eastern side of the Greynor Bay for a long time, before treachery and lies and betrayued them to the enemy. They discovered the kobolds' ruse only too late, and they were worsted.
Tourism
Not so much, although the Hartunian Family really wishes you would go, dear reader!
