Erik Frodyng

Lord Erik Frodyng, called Erik Illblood, is the third born, now eldest, son and heir of Lord Frode. He is the lord and master at arms of Underspring, where he trains most of his father's military. During the Three Days War he slew his elder brother, Bjorn, during the Day of Red Grass, and has such been named a kinslayer. He is married to Layna Frodyng, and they have had five children, three who have lived to adulthood.

Appearance and Character

Erik is a tall and muscled man nearing sixty years of age. He has heavy shoulders, and a sharp jaw which is always clenched. He has cold blue eyes that rarely blink, which stare into the soul of any man. He has graying brown hair that recedes into a sharp widows peak, and a thick bushy salt and pepper beard. He wears an iron gorget overtop leather armour, along with golden bracelets and armoured shins. He wears metal spikes on the toes of his boots. He wears a billowing golden cloak, and wields a large handaxe, an iron buckler for a shield, and a fishing net. He also carries a whip which he uses on the men he trains.
Erik is a serious, callous, and hard man, who is considered merciless. By his kinslaying and other actions he is considered evil and blackhearted. In his youth he was explosive and hotheaded, but as he aged he became much more calculative and level headed. He is an intelligent commander who leads from the rear, and he is dutiful and unwavering in his training to his father's soldiers. Erik has not shown any adoration to his father, but is somewhat loyal to him.
The reason for Erik slayed his brother is not known. Some stories claim he was jealous of Bjorn's skill and fame, or of Frode's love and favouritism for Bjorn. Others say he killed him because he desired his brother's lover, Layna. The most common story is that he killed his brother simply because he was a traitor. Another is that Bjorn killed him to become his father's heir. Their is another rumour that Erik is responsible for his brother, Agnar's death, but the story is widely disregarded.
