Vol'Kar
Vol’Kar are an ancient race created by the Ancient Vlakis. He deemed their “creation” a failure, as they lost all connection to magic, gaining great physical abilities in the process, but also living short lives. They do not know how to farm, and so only hunt for their meals. This is an easy task, however, given their physical augmentations.
The Vol’Kar believe that they are spurned by the gods due to their misfortune and inability to access magic, and particularly hate worshippers of Castor. They place a heavy focus on culture, stealth, and understanding their spirits and their places in the world– a world which they consider to be plagued by gods, not enhanced by it.
They scavenge technology through various means, occasionally including war and murder. However, due to their lack of magical understanding, they are afraid to go to war with settlements that have a mage present. Though having lost their ability to interact with magic, they experience a great instinctual fear from magical aura, which is how they sense the presence of mages.
During the Era of Mordred, the Vol’Kar were so terrified by Mordred’s overwhelming aura that they abandoned all of their homes, regardless of how sacred they were, fleeing to the far corners of the continent. Their gift of magical fear kept many of them safe during this dark age.
Their clothes include Mayan clothing, headpieces like Native American / Aztec / Mayan headgear.
The Vol'Kar live in tribes. Most notoriously, they are the desert dwellers who live beyond the mountains of the Gaping Maw.
