Bessinville
The town of Bessinville was originally 3 settlements. The location that is now known as Fort Killdrake was once a dragonborn village called West Edge. The second village was a small kobold settlement on the western edge of the Southern Slopes. The final village that was incorporated was the dwarven settlement of Umbroin, this annexation was peaceful as the dwarves had gotten lost on an expedition from thier mountain homes far to the south. They peacefully joined the city and actually created the Umbroin Lumber Company as well as the Bessinville Foundries.
History
Founding Founded in the year 297, in the Age of Pelor's Waxing, the town of Bessinville was originally just the hill fort known as Fort Bessinger. The town spread out from this point to incorporate a series of forts built to establish dominance in the region. These forts were Fort Killdrake, the Western Hold, The Lower Lip, and the Southern Watch The foundation of the Umbroin lumber company marked a major milestone in the history of the town. Before this point it was almost exclusively just military forts and watchtowers. The peaceful annexation of a small town of dwarves and the founding of a dwarven lumber company created a huge influx of wealth as well as the basis for the naval industry that the Bessinger's wanted out of the Southern conquests. After the war was concluded as a reward for the family's service the town is renamed from the Southsward to Bessinville. Due to the fairly harsh and oftentimes underpaid military presence in the Southern Territories Bessinville was plagued ith corrupt officials and guards that would often ransack the local peasants. This caused a steady increase in crime eventually leading to a black market and refugee/brigand town to form within the confines of the Great Southern Forest. This town, known as Silent Oaks was founded by dwarves and kobolds disenfranchised by the corrupt human overlords. They were joined by halflings and dragonborn and eventually this black market became a flourishing yet somewhat secret town. Although perhaps the corrupt nobles just turned a blind eye due to the income and exotic luxuries brought into the town by the marketplace. Due to the frequent tensions with the dragonborn officials begin passing laws requiring them to live in sepperate areas, setting curfews and sometimes even profiling them simply by color. Soldiers begin to round up and send chromatic dragonborn to labor camps. They force them to work at the mine sin the north, send them as laborers to the dwarven lumber camps or, send them to work in the foundries and shipyards. The Second Dragon Wars The Second dragon Wars kick off with a crippling blow to the city. A spy stole secrets of the cnstruction of the Western Hold. This allows the dragonboren armies to quickly capture the Fort. They kill one of the visiting Council of 9 as well as imprisoning his family within the walls of Barrowhome Criminal bands begin to waylay travellers and the region becomes prone to massive bandit lords. Fort Killdrake is taken over by the Elven Bandit-King Ozlec Duskblossom he imposes his own rules on the land and begins to gain power in the region he renames the fort to Fort Ozlec. The Lord-Councillor of the Region Alfred Messina puts in place a terrible law that creates a series of radicals in the region. He bans the use of dyed cloth in any function other than military, government or religious ceremony. Due to a shortage of materials to make uniforms out of during the Second Dragon War. A group of Rebels known as the Red Caps form and begin working with the bandits in the area to undermine the Lord-Councillor's Power. Present A new elven settlement has opened communications to the south. A group of wood elves that have lived in the Great Southern Forests for many years. A terrible hurrican hit the Dragonborn labor camps as well as the castle of South Watch. Many were killed and the Castle was abandoned due to the damages sustained. The government having issues with rebellion and banditry had no funds or time to repair it.
