Garnet
Garnet is not built on a one of the major rivers of the region, but is instead built on Elephants Lake. a large freshwater lake in the valleys of the Demonspires. Like Jade, it is built in the ruins of an Imperial Fort, but they have started to expand the city along the southeast bank of the lake. They are not completely landlocked, as there is a river that runs from the lake into the Shimmering Sea, but only the smallest of ocean-faring vessels can navigate the narrow river to reach Garnet, so most of their trade is down with land-based caravans. Located so close to the Demonspires, Garnet's main industry is in the trading of metal ores. There is also a land route through the Demonspires that starts at Garnet, but it is rarely used.
Demographics
Most of the people of Garnet are Gemspeakers, though there is a sizable population of Ivory Savanna Tribesmen who come through the Demonspires to follow the elephants. These tribes rarely stay in or around Garnet, but they are not infrequent visitors.
Government
Garnet is ruled by its Prince, its Council, and its Merchant Families, like most Jeweled Cities.
Defences
Garnet has walls to defend itself, though unlike most of the Jeweled Cities it relies more on its guard than its ships. As it is not on the coast nor on an island, they worry more of attacks against their walls, as they are somewhat isolated. They regularly have their guard patrol the area around Garnet to keep watch for caravan thieves and bandits.
