Session 2: The Village in the Mountains
General Summary
The Company had learned from Sofia Vasari that the Boravici ball had been called off and that Sofia wished to leave immediately, before they could be delayed by any inquisitors of the Boravici. While her page alerted the Company, there were earthquakes in the Demonspire. Manaveth, upset by the tremors, had pulled his stake free from the ground, but Bell kept her mount under control and prevented him from going on a rampage through the camp. Bell also set about recruiting whomever she could get to fill the ranks from the citizens of Moonstone.
The earthquakes had the unfortunate consequence of causing a land slide that blocked the main path, but while Ashur was deciding what to do, they found a shepherdess named Song, who said she could serve as a guide for the Company through the foothills, though it would be a harder path and lead them through her village, and that if they were to go with her, they would need to keep eyes to themselves. Song traveled with her dog, Shadow, and she spoke broken Irontongue, relying on Sarsia and Gerard to translate her Gemspeak to the others.
Along the path, they nearly lost a wagon with supplies as it tumbled over the edge, but Gerard was able to pull it back as the other soldiers helped him lift it back up the cliff.
The people of Song's village all wore hoods and cloaks that covered much of their bodies. They seemed to be scared and angry at the Company, but none were willing to cause trouble. Ashur met with their leader Scar and, suspecting a trap, started to pay close attention to the area around them. He soon discovered the reason why they were so wary as he saw Wyrdings staring out through the windows. Even their guide Song had a monstrous visage in the reflection of a pool of water for a moment.
Ashur negotiated with the leader of the village, Scar, peacefully, but as the company set up camp, he warned them to be alert, fearing that Mistwalkers might be drawn to the village.
