Session 26

General Summary

26th of Julista

Still deep within the sewers of Pruessmount having just slain the monster, the party pursued the figure that had fled deeper into the system. It wasn't too long before they stumbled upon a hovel carved out in a wall of the sewer. A strange voice emanating from the walls (yes, yes, manthing, yes yes) beckoned them to enter and meet their "master". The party agreed and headed in where they met a hag named Vermiss Poxriddle. From the large icon affixed to the wall, Sandro was able to surmise she worshiped the condemned goddess Talona, Goddess of Poison and Diseases .She attempted to barter with the party, hoping to encourage them that it was better to leave her alone, and that she would leave the city soon enough. She tempted them with information which hinted that a member of the Pruessmount power structure was complicit in her schemes, however, she wanted to finish her plans before leaving. The party was uninterested in making a deal, and combat thus ensued. Grotesque rat man climbed out from the walls, and the party fought them off while dealing with Vermiss tossing piss bottles at them. It was a tough, nasty slog, but eventually a combined effort turned the tide. Vermiss saw her unfavorable position, and she attempted parlay one more time. This time, she directly told them of the deal she had made with Constable Tysen Brier which gave her free reign over Lakeview. She passed along a written statement explaining as much (possibly her collateral if anything went awry with their deal) and a boon; a yet to be identified magic ring. However, during the exchange, she took advantage of the lapse in focus by Balthazar to slip away via the pipe system. The party left the sewer and headed back to the temple of Ilmatar to bring the good news. As thanks, the revered father gifted Dirt a new staff, imbued with the divine power of the Enduring God.

27th of Julista

After a much deserved and needed bath and rest, the party awoke the next day without much idea of what to do next. They were still waiting for Princess Monika II of Pruessmount to reach out about the prep session for the upcoming summit regarding Maravian misdeeds. They eventually settled on continuing their investigation into the death of Klaus Motter and its connection to the Ortag Faction. Considering the recommendation from Dirt’s buddy Bob, they headed to the Temple of Lliira, Goddess of Joy in hopes of chatting with influential Merrimores. After an exhausting interaction with their greeter, they eventually found themselves chatting with a member of the Merrimores known as Jovial Harmonyheart. He provided some interesting information about Klaus's interaction with members of the Ortag Faction up until his death; especially his intense meetings with the factions Exchequer; Kreigal Harhast. The Merrimores knew the Ortag's main plan involved sowing chaos in the Assembly, however, they did not know what the end goal could be, nor who or what was financing the group. As such, Jovial suggested the party do a bit of espionage at Kreigal's city residence. Since the holiday of Ruminativity was in full swing, it was likely he would be out of town. The party took the advice and headed on over.
With the city essentially empty, it didn't take much effort for the party to find a stealthy way into the residence. After a bit of fumbling around the apartment; the party uncovered a hidden office behind a false bookshelf (how cliche). Inside they found another icon of Cyric, God of Illusions, Deception and Lies, plenty of communication between Kreigal, his associates about the problem Klaus posed, as well as directions to a stronghold for Cyric devotees outside of the town overseen Strifelord Palander. The phrase; "Deception is power, power is divine '' would allow them access.
