Grand Athenaeum
The largest library in Ilnesaira and a grand temple to Athesne, Goddess of Knowledge & Magic.
The Grand Athenaeum is perhaps the most opulent library in modern existence. Everything in the temple is of the highest quality, the finest fabrics, marble and polished wood. The library is located on the Rise, where the nobles families all call home, and is restrcited only to those who can truly appreciate the knowledge stored here.
Purpose / Function
The Grand Athenaeum serves as a place to keep knowledge of all types, both magical and mundane, though one must gain special access to knowledge of a magical nature.
Architecture
Public Access
The library has vast, open halls surrounded by beautifully carved bookshelves detailed in gold leaf, spiraling staircases, and floors upon floors of books. There are many tables to sit and study at.Restricted Access
Behind a gate and a manned desk are the books of a magical nature, as well as those that impart knowledge that perhaps not all should have open access to.Sapphire Vaults
The entrance to the Sapphire Vaults, unlike in the Infinite Repository, is almost considered a display of prestige. An Archivist sits at the desk at all times, providing both magical protections as well as the stern look of a librarian in order to restrict access to where all of the most powerful, and dangerous, books are kept.
Defenses
Scholars of varying degrees of rank are always near by, as well as Seekers who are deep in their own studies. The Grand Athenaeum also has three Archivists who aid in keeping in library running efficiently, and ensures the protection of the books. What magical defenses there may be are unknown, and few would ever dare to test them.
