Shimmering Flats

The Shimmering Flats were once known as the most beautiful plains in the whole of the Old World. During wintertime, when only frost has taken the grass, it looked like the plains shimmered in white light. The constant warfare and the Fourth Age, The Calamity changed it but people still can see the beauty "if you just squint your eyes" as they say. This region belonged to the nation of Isagorth until it was defeated and conquered by the Divine Empire. Many duchies would form here and their descendants still rule these lands but far from their ancestor empire. The most famous are the Duchies of Marlette, one of the biggest duchies in the Empire, now splintered into five nations - Martfeld, Soltau, Leeste, Theux and Behrendorf. Another duchy was destroyed by the Magistorm and later recolonized by half-elves - Magipluie. A different duchy was revived by money (thanks to diamond mines) - Teteriel. Other lands were capable of returning to their former glory but still out of the Divine Empire's grasp.
