Divine Origins
The most zealot of Sythis worshippers will claim that the church of Sythis, along with the Churches of Bane and Mortis, predated the Church of Syth. Sythis worshippers believe that during the First Schlangenkrieg they were betrayed from within. When the war destroyed their ancient temple at Strasbourg the betrayers of Sythis killed and hunted the priestess of Sythis. From the ashes of Sythis' church a new one formed known as the Church of Syth. A small enclave of Sythis followers survived and made their home in the ruins of the old temple, they became known as the Witches of Sythis.
Whilst the most zealot Syth worshipper will tell you this is all false and that the development of Sythis is a recent thing caused by the Witches who followed a twisted version of Syth.
The Witches kept the flicker of faith alive until it was rediscovered by the wider nation in 1109. The popularity of the faith grew tremendously during the reign of Empress Callista Aurelia, who was the High Priestess of Sythis.
