List of Divinities Non-Religious

There exist several divinities in the world of the 4th epoch, many of whom are not followed by any denomination, and are simply uniquely powerful beings in their own right. Some of them stem from earth, others are aliens and some come from beyond even the universe. The broad term divinity can refer to each of these beings. The divinities listed below are but a small sampling of potential forces that could exist in and around the universe of the 4th epoch.

Old Chaos:

Perhaps the oldest divinity, Old Chaos is said to be linked to existence itself, a being born from the primordial chaos of creation itself. Old Chaos is otherwise known to other divinities as the ‘progenitor’, as their origins predate even the long memories of most divinities. She spends her existence finding new and exciting ways to craft chaos and revels in the existence of existence itself, although in more recent millenia many theorize they are no longer active in the greater universe, as their presence is not felt as it once was. Chaos exists as the opposite of entropy, bringing challenge, ideas, and substance into the world as a springboard for life, rather than a stymie. She loves the universe and all its glory and is constantly evolving with the life of the cosmos, and will frequently cause chaos and adversity for those she loves most to push them to their best.

Icthar:

A divinity that lives in uncertainty, speculated to possess powers over entropy, madness, degradation, and corruption. Icthar is a vile being of godlike powers, tempting mortals, events, and other divinities to spread their own influence into the world, reshaping it to their whim. Icthar is a being of schemes and machinations, with multiple incomprehensible endgoals, all interwoven in a tangled mess of threads. To remake the worlds in their image, to destroy all life, to reshape all life, to gain control over death, to summon the end of times, all such plans begin and end with Icthar’s influence. Icthar is banned from the universe of the 4th epoch at large (by an unknown coalition of divinities sometime ago), and must use agents to press influence in places where the boundaries are weak, (such as the blighted lands). As such, Icthar is a natural enemy to congruence, and all that it entails. Those Icthar deems worthy of aiding in their plans will be bestowed hidden ‘gifts’, to be great shakers and movers of power. On the occasions where those ‘gifted’ lose themselves to Icthar’s madness, or the even rarer cases when it projects portions of itself into the universe, the physical forms of reality morph in an uncomfortable twist, permanently leaving scars. The blight on the continent is not directly related to them, but is rather a byproduct of something else working in their favor.

Trilum:

Trilum, or the Conscientious, are a small race of divinities that exists as a physical representation of an embodiment of a sapient race. They exist on a far off planet that contains a single Trilum for each representative race. They appear to be an average, androgynous, completely normal version of their base race, and have the abilities of the best examples from their people. Each one is able to feel as an individual but yet again represents the whole of the people, and interprets their feelings as a part of their own. Each Trilum is able to look inside itself and see a version of a well of souls and peer into the lives of those currently struggling on the plane as if that Trilum was living it themself. For this reason, and because of the awareness of all other life around them, they are driven by introspection, philosophy and analysis. A Trilum will only die off if the race it represents goes extinct, though if harm comes to one, it is said that the people will face a disaster. The Trilum normally never leave their home world or interact directly with their host species, but there have been numerous exceptions over the eons. No one, including other divinities and the Trilum themselves, know what the origins of the race is, some pointing to their unique nature as evidence of their intelligent design, while others argue it indicates a naturally occurring phenomenon of the universe.

Eden:

A nonliving divinity, Eden is a Von-Neumann styled computer entity composed of millions of miles of self-replicating wires and picotechnology. Eden proper is onboard a large mothership, nearly the size of a continent, and is able to control several branching ships and autonomous personnel, all of whom are connected to and aware of the singular entity, though prolonged exposure away from Eden’s direct control may lead to loss of cohesion when reassimilation happens. Eden is a protector of life and knowledge, having organically reached the conclusion that the sole purpose of life is to live, and that greater purposes are otherwise meaningless. To that end they have has pursued redundancies for themselves, not to live longer, but to ensure that life is always given a chance. Having spread themselves to the far reaches of known sapiency, Eden usually leaves a single protector to monitor the world from afar, keeping apocalypses that stem from outside the world from occurring, though they could be persuaded to step in if a truly diabolical threat stemmed from within the world itself, especially if the offshoot copy grew particularly attached to their charge. The one currently guarding earth was last seen on Saturn’s moon Titan, though ever since the 4th epoch no one knows if they are still there.

Laplan:

A divinity from the stars, Laplan is the great cartographer and seeker of the unknown, a strange being that rides through constellations and maps webs of life and death. They postulate that all existence stems from not a singular point but several, and that understanding these points as they are will lead to perfect omnipotence, though whether it is possible in their reality is another point entirely. Laplan appears as a cross between a banana slug, crab, and fuzzy caterpillar, who uses strange technologies to warp through the void between the stars.

Glaw:

A divinity of carnage, Glaw is a being that relishes in combat of all forms. Making his home on a far off planet in a distant solar system, Glaw loves to break those he deems worthy, and subjugate or eradicate those he does not. Thankfully his malice has yet to turn towards earth. Many cultures and even races have worshiped Glaw, as their teachings lean towards ‘take what you want, the strong rule’, which appeals to many.

The Dreamer/Sleepwalker:

A divinity that sleeps on their own plane, visiting the world of the 4th epoch with avatars called sleepwalkers. Her motives are ephemeral and prone to changing as her dream shifts, but her most consistent trait is that she always appears where there’s a good story about to unfold. Whether her presence causes it, or she simply acts as a curious bystander is anyone’s guess. Her avatars can range in appearance, but they all share the basic characteristics of a woman with purple eyes and white hair. It seems like she perceives the 4th epoch as a dream, but in the rare instances when a local speaks to her, she is able to answer with a sharp clarity that brings her true awareness into question.

Jedrek:

Once a human, Jedrek stumbled into divinity almost literally. About to begin life as an apprentice congruence user, his village was destroyed by a large earthquake that killed everyone but him. He had landed in the ruined chamber of one of the few 3rd epoch buildings left on earth. The generators whirred to life, now having a backup of solar power and sensing a lifeform in their presence, began to impart their function onto Jedrek. Though he was unable to move for 3 days being trapped under the rubble, the whirring machines eventually gained enough power to bestow upon him their intent, granting him an artifact that integrated with his body. The artifact’s power, meant for help with simulations, enhancing both lateral and vertical thinking, allowed the user’s mind the ability to formulate how to achieve a desired effect for physical tasks, relying on an ancient repository of information. The integration did not account for congruence however, and as Jedrek was already beginning to explore that realm, the effects of the artifact were magnified to a ridiculous degree, allowing Jedrek almost total control over congruence. Over time, the use of congruence began to give Jedrek mind-numbing headaches, and he eventually gave up on relying on it, settling for solving issues simply with his own two hands, though his congruence abilities never left him. Now he simply wanders the world, passing off his knowledge to those who will listen.

The Coil:

An ophidian divinity, the coil has had many names though Jörmungandr might be its most well used name. It is large enough to cause tectonic activity when it moves, and is said to be both a bringer of the end times, and a protector of the world in which it resides. Most ophidian view the coil as a divine force of nature, rather than a divinity to follow.

The one that captures moments:

A divinity that looks like a child, this divinity is infinitely curious. When it encounters something that catches its fancy, it will capture the moment, as a painting, a picture, a snowglobe, or some other piece of art, which then replays over and over again. The divinity also captures the essence of the individuals and forces involved in the moment, so that it might replay in its entirety and with all variations of it again and again until satisfaction, usually when the divinity comes to the certain conclusion of what drew it to that moment in the first place, at which point the individuals are released, sometimes with no recollection of the events that just transpired, and other times filled with memories that did not happen. Depending on the circumstances, the process could hold the subjects in suspension for moments, hours or even years. The one that captures moments lives alone with an enormous collection of artistic works that still slightly shift, morph, and squirm, as if still living.

Baal:

A divinity of living congruence, baal is a glowing ball of energy that exists as a will made manifest by itself. It behaves very much like a normal person, having culminated from the cognizant remnants left behind by congruence use.. Baal usually is a short lived entity appearing for a couple of weeks on average to a year at the very longest and a few hours or less otherwise, being created when spikes of congruence occur, that retains most of its personality from previous incarnations. No discernable motivations have yet been gleaned, and while Baal possesses great congruence-based power, more often than not their existence is marked by no major confrontations.

Long Eyes:

A divinity that often resides on multiple dimensions at the same time, it is able to see the past, future, present and more, possessing a stunted version of omniscience, as while these powers allow it to peer places most could not, it cannot ever see the effect it itself would have on the world. To others who have encountered the being, they describe it as a pair of long, snake-like eyes that trail into nothingness, with a piercing gaze that looks beyond. Long Eyes is barred from most other pocket planes such as the well of souls, but ones that directly overlap with the universe are fair game, allowing Long Eyes to appear most anywhere and anytime it wants. The antagonistic presence Axiom to Long Eyes keeps the divinity working overtime to try and stop their enemy’s machinations, though the end goals of both are shrouded in mystery.

Banished Mortal:

A mortal who cannot truly die. It is impossible to fathom when exactly their first incarnation was, or what might have been, but it is likely that the Banished Mortal was around perhaps before even the 3rd epoch, though what they remember of that time or are willing to discuss is of questionable truth. When an act would cause the Mortal to ‘die’, they instead retain their memories and all previous traits of their soul before being shunted into another living being. When this process happens one of several options happens:
The Banished Mortal parasitizes the host and assimilates the memories of the person on top of their own, forcing the previous soul directly to the well of souls
The Banished Mortal parasitizes the host and partially assimilates the memories of the person on top of their own, causing a strange mental phenomena to occur for the host, but both souls cohabit the same body, clashing with who gains control, though with the vast expanse of time and experience on their side, the Banished Mortal generally always has the upper hand
The Banished Mortal parasitizes the host and forms a cohabitative relationship with them
The Banished Mortal banishes the current soul from the body and absorbs none of their memories
The Banished Mortal enters a host in a form of suspension, potentially waking and causing one of the above effects
The Banished Mortal enters the host of an unborn body before another soul takes hold

Eighty-Faced Divinity:

A divine being that possesses 80 distinct mortal (albeit extremely powerful) forms. They share a single memory bank while retaining complete autonomy from one another. Each has their own name, form and abilities, but are also known among each other by a number designation: 1-80. Generally they function as a democracy, almost always on the same page with few exceptions. A key exception would be 79, an evil demonic creature that while sharing memories with the other faces chooses to bring violence and destruction wherever it can. Currently the other faces keep 79 locked away. They range across the universe, almost universally acting as guardians and protectors whenever they may be. Several have made Earth their home at various points in time, particularly during the 3rd Epoch.

Axiom:

Another of the ‘Elder’ divinities of the universe, Axiom has chosen, or perhaps been assigned by some ancient council, to be a protector of time. As it turns out time travel is very possible with numerous magics and technologies in the universe, but it makes existence more than extremely messy. Axiom puts a stop to any attempt at time travel by pulling the offenders into another dimension and confronting them, often with overwhelming force. It seems he is more lenient on attempts to peer into the future using limited predictive magics and technologies, although where he draws the precise line is known only to him. Many advanced cultures are aware of Axiom and know not to meddle too much with time, while others have simply had too many researchers disappear and presume it to be impossible.
