Headless Titan
The Headless Titan is the tallest statue in Ravenmar, and perhaps even the Kingdom of Wolfsbrunn. It stands on the side of the road outside of Thornspire Castle, overlooking the city. It appears to be hewn from a single block of dark gray granite and depicts a Stone Giant from the Thelian Mountains who according to legend lived in or near the city centuries ago.
The tales tell that the Headless Titan was once a living Stone Giant (with a head). There are many theories about why the statue is headless. It is thought that it was decapitated by conquerors or as a result of the passage of time and a disregard for maintenance of the sculpture. Regardless of the reason, the abscence of the head is why it is unclear who the giant actually was. The stories of who the giant was vary wildly, with some versions speaking of a benevolent guardian who shielded the city from some harm, while others tell of a tyrannical ruler whose reign was marked by fear and attrocities. Perhaps there have been multiple giants in the history of Ravenmar, some benevolent, others evil and cruel.
Whatever the truth may be and who the statue actually depicts, he was immortalized in stone and still stands before the castle as a symbol of power. It stands tall on a pedestal, elevating it even further above the level of mere mortals at his feet. When Ravenmar is on the brink of war or during times of conflict it is a tradition for the citizens to place flowers at the base of the Headless Titan, a ritual that serves as both a plea for protection and a symbol of solidarity.
