The Jeweled Markets

History

Located on the northwest side of the Naud River, the Jeweled Markets began as a collection of warehouses, river docks, and roadside stops in 2nd century AS. During the War of Three cities, the Jeweled Markets leveraged its geographic position to begin developing a monopoly on the trade of raw metals and lumber. With an influx of wealth and a temporary power vacuum caused by the ongoing war between Eleznór, The Village, and the Union, the Jeweled Markets was officially established in 209 AS.   What began as a loose affiliation of guild bosses, affluent merchants, and heads of extraction companies has developed into a bustling center of trade throughout Marsétan. Since the signing of the Lotus Treaty, governance of the district has shifted towards an ostensibly democratic process. However, it is an open secret that those who hold the purse strings, hold decision making power in the Jeweled Markets. These days most goods in Marsétan licit or otherwise travel through the Jeweled Markets. District affiliated caravans and patrols are a common sight for those living northwest of the Naud River.   Architecturally the Jeweled Market gives off a sense of opulence and spaciousness. Buildings often sport columns, verandas, and balconies under low pitched gable and dormer roofs. Large windows are set into a mix of brick and wood shingled siding. The buildings are construct of various materials from pine and red wood to brick, basalt, and granite. Much of the district includes wide avenues penned in by large multi-family homes. Many sit on large lots filled with monocultured greenspace. Open markets and parks dot the landscape. The riverfront lots are a mix of industrial docks and The Village and Asdraeck inspired apartments and condominiums.   The district is cut in half by the Suncrest Road which travels from the Wall down across the Naud River into The Village. Most activity radiates out from Suncrest Market, a central square that contains a sprawling expanse of stalls and greenspace. The recently established central bank of Marsétan can be found in Suncrest market, as can the Golden Hall, the Consortium's original meeting space and present representative of the Jeweled Market. Lively at all times of day, whatever you are buying or selling, there is sure to be someone in the markets who can provide. For more on the governance consult Jeweled Markets Governing Body

Some notable companies and individuals include:

Pinnacle Mines. One of the oldest companies in Ristarca, Pinnacle mines trade primarily in common metals. They have mines and companies towns established throughout the The Wall. The current head of the company is Silas Lahaie, an old half-orc who rose to his position from a lowly start as a company guard.   Dark Depths Mining Corporation. A prominent extraction company specializing in rarer metals found deeper in the mountains past Forest Line. They have outlasted many of their competitors due to a near monopoly on Lamien stone and other such rare minerals located deep under the Wall. The current head is Aiden Laporte (they/them). The head supervisor would be Akeely Moore (he/him).   Prosperity West (he/him). Prosperity is the owner of the Riverside Haven Hotel, a popular destination for sailors and adventurers. Rumors say he is also deeply imbedded in the smuggling of illicit goods into both the Jeweled Markets and The Union.   Oak and Axe Limited. Oak and Axe ltd focuses on lumber and resource extraction within the forest itself. Over the past century they have been driving innovations in sailing. Specifically developing specialized craft for navigating the waterways of the forest that feed the Naud River. They are led by Alice Bennett (she/her), a renowned Disciples of the Lost guild member, who has used her expertise in long-distance expeditions to continue to push the envelope.   The Golden Hall. Originally a large multi-use complex used by the original consortium of the Jeweled Markets. With the shift towards democratic leadership, it has been repurposed as the bureaucratic hub of the jeweled markets. The administrative departments have ruthlessly tracked the going-on of the various companies stationed and procured copies of shipping manifests, contracts, budgets, and all other manner of sensitive documents.   The central bank of Marsétan. Opened shortly after the signing of the lotus treaty, the central bank has slowly been expanding its, and the districts, influence throughout the city.
