During a vicious thunderstorm, five heroes, unknown to eachother seek shelter in The Broken Tower.
Timeline of the Awakening of the Dragon Empress Campaign.
The heroes manage to track the goblins back to their lair. Once arrived they are faced with giant toads, small steam elementals, hungry mastiffs and goblins. They discover the attack by the goblins was most likely motivated by their lack of food. The goblins were simply hungry.
The heroes manage to find the leader of the goblin band; a goblin shaman. A vicious fight ensues but the heroes manage to overpower the goblin shaman as it tries to flee. The heroes claim its possessions as their treasure.
The heroes fail to capture whoever was keeping the dragon company but do discover his abandoned, makeshift lean-to. Searching the small camp they discover little in regards to his identity, but do discover a proof of purchase of a Torc, being crafted in Fellwind. There is little time though, the discovery of a live dragonling is monumental news that needs to be delivered to the local authorities.
The heroes tracked the Beast of Dundaere to a bluff, where they confront it. The beast turns out to be a hungry, yet very active wyrmling, a baby wyvern. This unheard of, no dragons have been known to exist, let alone be alive since the event of the The Dragonscourge. The heroes battle the wyrmling in vicious combat. At one point the wyrmling seemed to gain the upper hand, yet fails to capitalize its advantage. The dragonling now lies dead, but rustling in the bushes below catch the heroes off-guard.
The heroes travel to Fellwind seat of the Earldom of Dundaere. Once arrived they request and are granted an audience with Earl Sigberth Hammerhelm, who is shocked by the news. To aid them, the Earl asks one of the Shieldmaiden to accompany the heroes. Hilde the Half-Blood answers the call, and joins the heroes.
During their stay in Fellwind they visit the smithy who issued the proof of purchase they found after the dragonlings demise. It belonged to an apprentice mage named Brander Ash. He learned at The Basalt Tower under tutelage of Callirian Stone. Callirian stone is the de-facto court mage of Fellwind. Callirian stone tells the party that Brander Ash was keenly interested in the magickal art of Dreamwalking. The half-elf magi also tell the party he knows Brander Ash broke into the Basalt Tower, stole supplies and most likely fled towards the mountains to the north.
The heroes and their new companion Hilde travel through the nothern mountain passes in an effort to catch Brander Ash. During their journey they overcome many challenges, angry cave bears, cunning displacer beasts, but even more danger lies ahead.
The heroes walk right into a trap. A sizable force of Iron Orcs hold ground in the mountain pass, seeming crossing the border into the Kingdom of Aedeyne. With help of magick spells an avalanche is created. The heroes manage to escape most of its wrath but are now stuck in the pass, with Hilde stuck on the other side. Even worse, an iron orc force engages the party.
The heroes fight off the Iron Orc attack force and regroup. Hilde is to return to Fellwind and request reinforcements to deal with the iron orc threat. The heroes also captured an iron orc slave soldier. Originally a lowly soldier from Benthburgh. The heroes don't trust the captured man, and elect to bind him and leave him near the blocked pass as the heroes press on. Eventually the heroes stumble upon a small iron orc encampment and assault it. They manage to kill the iron orcs and their battlemage officer. In the camp the heroes discover a prisoner; Sigrid the Ranger. In return for her freedom she agrees to lead the heroes further into the pass.
The heroes spend their time together with Sigrid the Ranger effectively and partially clear the pass of Iron Orcs. They discover that the iron orcs have reinforced the old, run down Fort Braemar from where they exert control over the area. If the heroes are to clear the hostile force, they will have to take the fortress. All these fights have raised a question though. How did Brander Ash pass through these mountains? Did he somehow evade the sizable iron orc force? Or is he somehow aligned with these vicious, foreign invaders?
Hilde has returned with some small force of Caírdunnán rangers and warriors. The heroes, together with the reinforcements clear the pass. Sigrid the Ranger decides to leave the group behind and return north to her tribe. With the extra men and women present, the heroes start planning the assault on the crumbling Fort Braemar. While staying back and planning the attack, Iron Orcs take the chance to ambush the group with a much larger force this time. Nevertheless they are repelled and the heroes continue.
The heroes start the assault on Fort Braemar by scaling the rocky cliffs. The battle proves difficult, as the iron orcs put up a formidable defense in the crumbling fortress. Eventually the fort is cleared except for the dungeon.
The heroes, after a well earned rest delve into the Fort Braemar dungeon. There they find a dragon egg hatchery together with Brander Ash. He claims to be their guardian and is tasked to ensure their safe hatching. There conversation turns sour and Brander unleashes his dormant draconic powers. In the ensuing inferno Arthus Blackmore, Artephius and Jawhar sadly lose their lives.
