Tower of Zenopus

Around 100 years ago the sorcerer Zenopus built a tower on the low hills overlooking the lands around Saltmarsh. The tower was close to the sea cliffs some 25 miles west of the town built next to the remains of an ancient graveyard.   Rumour has it that the magician made extensive cellars and tunnels underneath the tower.   Fifty years ago, on a cold wintry night, the wizard's tower was suddenly engulfed in green flame. Several of his human servants escaped the holocaust, saying their master had been destroyed by some powerful force he had unleashed in the depths of the tower.   A few brave folks from Saltmarsh investigated the tower and found it abandoned. The door at the base of the cellar stairs was covered with strange symbols and wrapped in silver chains. An explorer tried to open the door, but a jolt of lightning from the door's runes nearly killed her. Shortly afterward, strange spirits and capering fey were seen atop the tower.   After a few travellers went missing nearby, Saltmarsh town council asked an Imperial Galleon to bombard the structure with catapult fire until it was battered into rubble.   This stopped the hauntings but travellers on the road continue to shun the ruins. The few adventurous souls who have descended into crypts below the ruin have either reported only empty stone corridors or have failed to return at all.
