The Bereft Fellfolk
Article is still WIP
One must question how anyone could willingly outcast themselves from their people. To leave one's family, friends, and home behind, never to return again. It makes no sense to me but everyone has their own reasons. Grief, Madness, or pure selfishness. It matters not. They are dead to us.
The first of the Bereft were those who were so consumed by grief they sought to end their lives by letting The Fells consume them. This started the practice of treating those who have left as the dead. Most died within days, if not hours, of leaving their homes. There were those who were twisted in mind as well as body. They fled to the Fells trying to escape whatever demons that plagued them, but they can't outrun their own minds. Most died, but a few survived. Then there are the true outcasts, those who simply didn't want to live within the Moramite Fellfolk society. They sought solitude and self sufficiency. No one expected any of them to survive, but some did. They were like crazy hermits living in the remote places of The Fells. Against all odds they fought off the beasts and avoided the Forgotten.
Within the past five years a new type of Bereft has begin to appear. These are typically younger Fellfolk, those who have begun to chafe at the communal focus of the Moramite Fellfolk society. They listened to the tales from the foreigners about what life is like in the rest of Bennoria. Tales of green grass, blue skies, tall trees and plentiful food. When they request permission to go travel outside Meoram they are often denied, often because they are still in training or needed for their clan. Younger fellfolk will runaway, often taking odd jobs on the trading vessels. Adults will sometimes make their intentions clear, departing from their clan with heads held high and no intention of returning. These outsider Bereft are mourned the most because they have not only turned their back on their people but even their homeland.

Wording comment: "Socialistic" sounds like it refers very specifically to contemporary political ideology. Intentional? Otherwise, maybe communal for less political connotations. I like this article. It answers questions I had from the previous article I read.
Yea, I wasn't happy with the term but couldn't think of a better way to put it. Communal does work. Thanks!
