White desert

A surreal yet stunning desert that houses some of the land's most dangerous wildlife.

Geography

The white desert is as its name implies, a white desert. The glittering sand dunes may give this land an otherwordly feeling, but in this vast emptiness lies oases of flowers and spectacular obsidian pillars and other rock formations.

Ecosystem

Because of its richness in minerals and unique enviromental conditions many of the flowers that grown here can be found nowhere else. Many of these flower species are poisonous, however. But the edible roots, seeds and grass are enough for some creatures to call this place their home.

Ecosystem Cycles

The flowers bloom with the rain seasons, where clouds of mist roll down the mountainside from the east and give the dormant seeds the moisture they need to bloom. During this time many insects take their opportunity to feed on the flowers.

Localized Phenomena

Mistclouds, sandstorms and an occational lightningstorm is common here. On rare occations when lightning stikes the sand the heat will cause it to instantly melt and harden, creating bizzare quartz-glass fulgurites.

History

The sand in this desert is white due to it mostly consisting of quartz. The quartz and other minerals have been eroding from The breathing ridge for eons and gathered in this area, forming the White Desert.
