They-Who-Rose-From-Ashes is a Kalashtar, Metamorph and revolutionary who has infiltrated the The Gauntlet of Mercy. Ash was born a human and rose up ranks quickly due to their intellect, eventually successfully becoming a Kalashtar beside their close companion, She-Who-Heard-The-Soul. Their final project was a method to resurrect people after disintegration. However, when they joined the Sacred Seven--the group responsible for the implantation and birth of the new Empress--revolutionary sentiments led them to change the genome of the new baby to have empathy, unlike all empresses who came before her. The crime caused the death of the original Empress and the execution of all of the Seven, but Soul was able to use the method of resurrection they had perfected to bring them back. They underwent the modification to become a metamorph, and has been working towards their goal of overthrowing the state ever since. Ash is a powerful magic user and has also made a deal with the Fey in order to help enact their plan; they want to get someone to use a genome key to allow them to enter the Celestial City, from which they will use a fey army to overthrow Regent Sai. Originally, Soul herself was going to take the key, but an unexpected use of amnesia-causing magic on the part of the Empire meant that Ash was forced to approach other teams in the hope of soliciting aid. Recently, Ash's relations with the fey have soured, and Ash now tenuously keeps them in check by using Solemnity as a bargaining chip. They hope they can still recruit Team Ten to aid them in their cause, but the team remain uncertain.
