The Infinite Gateway

A tall, stone, vine-covered gateway that is embedded into the side of a mountain. Surrounding the gateway, the area is in constant flux of it's location; Snow comes down from seemingly no where, trees sprout and rapidly grow, decay and crumble away, or various other strange occurrences happen around the gate. Standing guard near the gate are the Guardians, who rarely let their vigil of the gate fade.
Within the Gateway is pure darkness. Stepping inside, one is transported to the Crystal Pathway, a long pathway with pillars on either sides floating in the void between the multiverse. The mind is almost immediately assaulted by visions and illusions of alternate worlds, past deeds, what has and hasn't happened. Those with weak wills can find themselves overwhelmed, forgetting what they've done, who they are, and become an amalgamation of all those fragments of alternate worlds trying to use them as a host. Those with stronger wills, can peer into the void to peek at possible futures, pasts, and alternate timelines. Nothing is ever for certain.
The origin of the gateway is unknown. Very few can remember when it first appeared or what it's purpose was originally for, but the Guardians have taken it up as their life-long goal to ensure it's powers aren't used for nefarious reasons, to protect the multiverse and it's barrier, and to keep whatever is inside the void from escaping.
