Biography

Early Life

Abraham Finch was born in the city of Cornellus and was orphaned during his early childhood. In order to support himself, Finch became a privateer in his teenage years for the Cornellus Trade Company. It was during this period that he learnt to sail and became the company's youngest ever captain at 22. Finch resigned his post five years later when he discovered that several of the voyages he captained, unbeknownst to him, had been transporting slaves amongst its official cargo.

Founding Freetown

Abe felt tremendous guilt following this discovery and decided to devote the next years of his life to helping the oppressed and marginalised folk of the continent. Using the money he earnt during his sailing days, Finch began construction of Freetown, a community created 'for those that had nowhere else to go'. The town became a haven for all manner of creatures such as: bugbears, goblins, dragonborn as well as humans who had been perscuted for their ethnncity or personal beliefs. Several years after construction of the town began, Abraham met his wife and had a daughter named Sara. His wife died of an illness when Sara was two years old.

Freetown Kidnappings

Some time later, Freetown was the target of a mass kidnapping in which it is estimated that over half the town's child population, including Abraham's daughter, was abducted in a single night. Finch organised dozens of rescue parties to search the surrounding areas for the missing children but after months of trying with no success, he finally gave up. His life was consumed by alcoholism during this period and Freetown suffered a major decline due to his absent leadership. Various neighbourhoods were plagued by organised crime gangs that flourished due to the lack of authority.   Roughly a year after the mass abduction, several of the missing children of Freetown were inadvertently discovered by an adventuring party including Augustus Olba, Vespa Aran, Illeana Aduna and G in the commune of Biggle Took. The children led the party to a nearby steel mill were they had escaped from after being enslave by mage to work for him. With the help of the archmage Rowland, the adventuring party killed the mage and returned the children to their home town. A great celebration ensued and Abraham vowed to stop drinking and return the town to its former glory.

Voyage to Armatopia

Roughly a year after the children of Freetown were rescued, Abe was approached by the mayor of Founder's Ring, Lucius Able-Hart, to captain an expedition to find a mythical utopian island that was rumoured to exist far beyond the western sea. Theorising that the island might contain vast amounts of wealth that could be used to help renovate Freetown, he agreed to lead the voyage. Blinded with his pursuit of the of these riches, Abe and Lucius agreed to keep it a secret from the rest of the crew that no one had ever reportedly returned from finding the island.   Over the next few weeks, The Explorer was constructed and Finch hired a crew to make the journey, naming Augustus Olba to be his first mate and renowned sailor Franny McConnell to be his second mate, much to the latter's annoyance.   The voyage presented many dangerous hurdles along the way which caused a great deal of doubt to arise amongst the crew. Abraham himself began to question the voyage when he discovered his young daughter Sara had hidden herself aboard the ship, but nevertheless decided to continue. This decision ultimately proved to be fatal for Abraham. When the crew of The Explorer became stranded on jungle island, Abe finally admitted that the voyage was a sham perpetuated to inspire political support for Lucius Able-Hart. For his own benefit, he had hoped there to be some truth to the legend of Utopia and committed to the voyage in order to use some of the rumoured wealth to rebuild Freetown.   As the crew deleved deaper into the jungle to find supplies, they were attack by a pack of velociraptors causing them to take refuge in a cave. Abraham, feeling guilt for putting both his crew and daugher in danger, volunteered to lead the raptors away so the rest could escape to safety. Armed with a torch and numerous explosives, he guided the creatures to a nearby log bridge. Trapped and with no hope of survival, Abe detonated the explosives killing himself and causing the raptors to fall to their deaths.
