The Gift of Parretoa

Many centuries ago the Fall of Parretoa brought magic into the world, leaving a giant grater is his wake. After all this time, arcane energy still seeps out of the depths fueling the abilities of great sorcerers and studied wizards alike.
The energy bundled in this area is so strong that powerful mages can feel it from across the continent. Individuals born with an innate connection to magic often experience a pull towards the crater and many end up going on some sort of pilgrimage. It's often referred to a the arcane north of the planet.
It is no wonder that the Gift of Parretoa, as the crater is referred too, is a subject of many studies and experiments. Its location in the middle of the Aganaan Desert makes it hard to reach, but some people have managed to set up camp here. But none lasted long.
When Parretoa unwillingly gifted his power to the world it gave birth to innumerable creatures, both of beauty and of horror. These can be found all around the world, but the most beautiful and foul can be found here, at its source. These creatures sometimes act as guardians of the crater and prey on any who get near.
