Skywood Grove
Skywood Grove is a large floating island in The Open Sky covered by a forest of Skywood Trees. It is officially protected as a nature reserve, meaning that the trees cannot be legally harvested for wood, as a result, the island is home to some of the oldest known skywood trees.
Geography
Skywood Grove is a fairly flat island with gravelly soil with a base composed of rocks that are bound together by tree roots and plants growing in the gaps. A majority of the island is covered in a dense forest of skywood trees with scattered mossy rocks and fallen logs and branches. Only the "shore" of the island is free of trees and has become a haven for flowers and other small plants.
Fauna & Flora
The island is a sanctuary to huge numbers of birds that use the island as a feeding and nesting ground, even a few Snow Rocs call the island home. During spring, human access is limited to a very small number of researchers in an attempt to protect the nests of the birds and prevent unnecessary disturbance.
Outside of the Skywood Trees, the island's flora primarily consists of lichens, mosses and fungi. The "shoreline" of the floating island are covered in flowering plants and bushes that are making the most of the limited space that receives regular sunlight.
Natural Resources
Due to its protected status, the huge qualities of Skywood is not legally harvestable, even fallen trees are left to allow their nutrients to return to the soil. Despite this, the island is the biggest sources of skywood seeds in the world, some collected from the island by licenced individuals but most are distributed across the world by the winds.
