Feldem's Hunting Lodge
Feldem's Hunting Lodge was a tower at the top of a rise in the northern foothills of the central Punjuki mountains. A dozen or so cottages, various sheds, a stable and a kennel, all almost concealed in the trees, stood on the slopes below the main building. Together they made up an estate constructed on the orders of the eccentric Puzzle Lord, Ivan Feldem in 1513 APC.
History
During the life time of the Baron and for about a hundred and fifty years afterwards, the Lodge was used as a base for hunting in the surrounding forests. It was also a location where the locally important aristocrats of the Puzzle Lords Directorate met to participate in a five yearly competition consisting of a number of intellectual and physical challenges suited to the arborial environs. These were known as the Feldem Games.
In 1728 APC, hunting ceased at the site and the Feldem Games came to an end after the final gathering in 1745 APC. The estate was prevented from falling into disuse when it was acquired by an environmental study and action group who called themselves the Friends of Feldem. The Friends looked after it and used it as a retreat during the Long Drought, throughout the age of the First Popular Ascendancy, the New Pale Empire and into the era of the Four Aerial Courts.
It was sold to a succession of wealthy private individuals between 2352 APC and 2671 APC, and then became a clinic, used in the rehabilitation of aristocratic addicts of various kinds until 2808 APC. During the final years of the Moderators' Council it was refurbished and repurposed again as a holiday destination for rich paying travellers and continued in that role throughout the Time of Terrors.
The estate receives a brief mention in Volume 4 of Clarise Vabatan's Diary when she flew over it on a return journey to Katrapetch from Highloft.
During the Second Popular Ascendancy the Lodge was used as a scientific research centre for ecological studies in central Punjuki. These continued in some form or other as the Age of Shadows began but the population on the estate declined gradually and by all accounts it became an eerie location as the surrounding forest succumbed to the shadows.
The Lodge was finally ruined when it fell to a mysterious attack in 4897 APC by some supposedly supernatural entities who emerged from the forest, almost certainly under the control of agents of the Dark Domains, and it has never been reclaimed.
