Lithos Street Chapel

Lithos Street Chapel is part of the community of faith in the Church of Hidden Radiance, a small centre for worship and welfare, at the edge of some of the most socially deprived parts of the Warrens level of the Cavern City of Carafon. It is situated in the middle of a cluster of crude and simple dwellings, just beyond the point where Die Street meets Lithos Street after it bends to the west as it heads towards the Gurgle at the edge of the city.

The chapel is intended as a place of worship for members of the Church of Hidden Radiance where the faith of the church can be preached to the miners and other workers who live in this part of the warrens. The current priest is Bracken Oreheld and he has been in charge of this parish for almost thirty years.

The church offers regular weekly services but also meets a number of other irregular spiritual needs, such as conducting weddings and funerals.

A weekly distribution of food, known as the "Passing of Bread" (although it includes much more than bread) helps to ameliorate the grinding poverty of many in the local community.

The chapel is one of many centres that help to celebrate the Festival of Thyme and Spice, but it also has open tables at other feasts, such as Aurum's day, illustrated here, where food and drink are widely shared.

Historically this area of the city was once a hotbed of the cult of the Star Crossed, who believe that contrary to orthodox opinion within the church, the correct pairing of the imprisoned gods and goddesses should be between Saphira and Aurum and between Rubina and Argyros. They show this belief by making secret jewelry with the forbidden pairings of metal and gemstone. Even now that the Star Crossed are outlawed, it is known that they still have members throughout the city and perhaps especially within the congregation of the Lithos Street Chapel. Heretics Way, not far from the chapel, is so called because it was once the home of many important members of the early cult.
