The Herald of Darkness is the champion molded by
Shugalo, Darkness Incarnate. As a means to oppose
The Elder Gods' Champion of Light chosen by the mythical Earth Chronicles, Shugalo schemes differently by having studied humanity over countless centuries to create a genetically perfect mortal to be his own champion.
The first Herald of Darkness is Genova of the
Parliament of Magic, mainly appearing in The Earth Chronicles II. An enigmatic entity, Genova plays a vital role in carrying out the secret agenda imposed by his cosmic benefactor while simultaneously following the orders of his authoritarian leader and adoptive father,
Azriel Thermydor. Genova was tasked in finding the legendary
World Mana Tree and intercept the chosen Champion of Light once the pathway to the Verdant Nexus is open, so that he may enter the realm of the Elder Gods and take the Allthrone. Doing so would weaken the Elder Gods and expose the world to Shugalo's grasp, which then it would take the World Mana Tree's true form, the Heart of A'dan, for himself and engulf the universe in darkness. However, Genova's schemes would be foiled by the greater power of Light from Benji, and would fall in battle. Genova's great hatred towards everything and everyone would cause his soul to remain in a physical state, merging with the darkness around his body and become a haunting, devastating fog, which would later be known as the "Black Blight".
Even though Genova fell in battle years earlier, Shugalo had a contingency plan should Genova fail. Genova was merely a test to see how far a mortal can walk the path of Darkness and concluded that the Harbinger must not fall to self-fulfilling greed, and thus must have a true heart and selfless conviction. After manipulating bloodlines and genetic codes from the earlier tribes of humanity to present time, Shugalo was running out of time as he saw his greatest threat slowly becoming godlike. However, his greatest and most perfect creation would be born right at the nick of time; Thenchi Blackrock. Thenchi proved to be everything that Shugalo sought to create in a perfect specimen; selfless, brave, determined, and an unbreakable will. After Thenchi ascended to Harbinger of Darkness, it was just a matter of time before he'd face off against Shugalo's most dreaded enemy; Azriel Thermydor. Against all odds and tribulations, Thenchi became the greatest warrior to ever exist, and would be the one to take the Allthrone and become Guardian of
Mana.
